    One mans trash is another mans treasure! Lake Trout = $$$ in the LOC derby (Spring and Summer anyways) We target lakers a lot when kings are not around and have a blast doing it.

    Time of the year and body of water play a big roll in weight. I got a 26.5" fish from Quinte that weighed 9.2lbs. I caught a 28" fish from a Lake Ontario Bay that only went 7lbs. Both were caught in the winter.

    I use the Double Willis on my cores. The knot is easy to tie and holds great.

    If they would do this, we could do fundraisers and derbies to support the hatchery. Isn't there a ton of money sitting in the Conservation Fund right now? There were talks about a Niagara hatchery years ago. That got shot down for BS reasons. Why couldn't we outsource the raising of the fish to the Powder Mill Staff? Make it a salmon only hatchery and raise the browns from Powder Mill elsewhere.

    Someone mentioned a method that would disinfect the eggs (it is used in another state). They circumvented that question at the State of the Lake meetings a couple years ago. If the DEC cared about the king fishery, they would be open to ideas and willing to make a change.

    I mentioned Powder Mill two years ago at the state of the lake meetings and they said they did not want to have kings there because it was private and could affect Browns that they stock from there......

    When I was offshore off of Sandy last week, I took kings down 120+ out of 39 degree water. Do not overlook those marks! Good luck guys. My season is done.

    Upper Twenties to low thirty years old is my guess. Ours was 27 years.

    Welcome to the Club Bruce! The 34.06 we caught in 2012 came off lighthouse in 128'. That area is a great spot for those pigs in August!

    A livewell is fine Mark but that looks more like a porcelain throne!

    Another thing to add is do not take the time to snap a photo of these little guys. Save it for a couple of years when they are picture worthy.

    I see them when they go in the pens and when the come out. Kings grow fast. They are fed well. Another thing to debunk your theory is the amount of 1 year old kings in the lake. There has been plenty of small kings around the past couple seasons. How could this be if the gobies ate them?

    They increased the number of lakers stocked to increase the amount of natural reproduction in Lake Ontario.

    Here is a quote from the state of the lake meeting minutes about gobies: "Round goby is an invasive species first reported in southwestern Lake Ontario in 1998 and in the Bay of Quinte in 1999 (Mills et al. 2005). Gobies increased in distribution, abundance, and biomass throughout Lake Ontario, peaking in 2008, and remaining at a variable, lower level since" Gobies were found in Lake Ontario in the 90's (1998) like I stated above and their population peaked and is lower. If your "theory" had any merrit to it, we would have had dismal returns of kings and crap fishing long before last year and this season. How would we have had STELLAR salmon fishing in 2012 by your "theory"???? The pen reared fish are kept for three weeks to a month and are big enough at release to not be eaten by a goby.

    Perch populations are affected by Alewive numbers. Gobies would have more of an effect on spawning Bass and perch than salmon fry. More salmon are Pen reared now which increases their chance for survival.
