In order for a captain to make a living, he has to work his a$$ off in the short season here on Lake Ontario. After expenses, not a lot is left at the end of the day. Doing double trips a day, working every day during the season are the only way to survive chartering. They are under paid in my opinion.

What people need to understand about the charter business is how expensive it is to operate a charter business. What Lake Ontario captains make is a drop in the bucket compared to what captains make in the salt. What you get for the price of a Lake Ontario charter captain is a great deal. Throwing the guy a tip should not even be questioned. A day of fishing, fish cleaned and some good old stories from the years past is worth the investment if you ask me. Go to the store and purchase the amount of fish you get from a charter and you spent most of what it cost for the trip. I think last time I looked, wild caught salmon was around 14.99/lb.

Not until later in the day when we went out over 30 fow. Did a king out there and a laker around 11:30.

Who cares what the manual says. Cheap insurance policy if you ask me. I do mine every other year. Overheat the engine, it might cost you way more than a simple impellor replacement.

5/7 Fished East of the creek and started the season off with a 19lb king letting out the 4th rod of the season. I was just getting the release out to the board and the king almost ripped the rod out of my hand. We did a coho minutes after and then things went quiet for hours. Tons of bait screwed the bite up. Did not have another release until we trolled back to the west of the creek. We did a nice brown and lost 2 others before pulling the plug due to a building East wind. 5/9 Started West of the creek in 12 fow and pulled a king and a coho in front of the pump house. Continued West to the nose pulling a mixed bag. Ended the day with the Lake Ontario Grandslam. 6 kings 8 - 19lbs, 1 coho, 1 atlantic, 2 browns, 2 lakers and a steelhead. Found the kings from 15 - 35 fow. Firetiger sticks off the boards and Stinger Stingray NBK, Gator and Frog Circus Freak all took fish. The water from the creek to the nose was 46 - 50 degrees. Right at Devils Nose, there was a big break. The water went from 48 - 43 degrees. There was nothing West of the break.

The guy at the hamburg show was Jim Piano. He owns Hammerhead charters and tackle. These are the ones I use. Google hammerhead charters and tackle and you will find his site. You can place an order over the phone. His number is on the site.

The last spring like this was 2006. I had my boat at the Newport House on the same dock as you Bruce. Kings galore off I-bay all spring. 30 to 50 fow was unreal. Hopefully they stick around like they did that year!

Too big. They will hold a full core nicely. The saltist 30's fit a 1000' of wire perfectly.

I heard about something like this on the Greece ponds too. Glad to see the DEC is out there doing what they re supposed to do. Hopefully they start caring more about the trout and salmon in the fall.

Mitchel's bait and tackle has the best price on seagar that I have found. They have a few spin doctors, nk's and stingers but not the variety they have at other places like Narby's in oak orchard.

When we took delivery of the kings at sandy last week, the DEC employee that delivered the fish told me that the fish were 3 weeks ahead. He said something about he last couple years they were a little smaller due to not eating for a while after going through the clipping trailer.

What brand cowbells are you using? I run the hammerhead and they pull but not that bad. I actually believe that resistance causes less floater lakers. The resistance allows them to come up slower and release air from their air bladder. If it is not broke, don't try to fix it! Stick with what works.
