I do not think stream fishing should be closed but some sections of tribs should be off limits. If there is natural reproduction of trout or salmon shouldn't it be protected to a certain point? If there is no natural reproduction, let it be open. The DEC spends Millions a year on stocking the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario and the tribs are a free for all during the spawn. With the new evidence of good natural reproduction in the Salmon River, shouldn't the most fertile areas (ie Beaver Dam Brook) be off limits? Just something to think about.

Pretty interesting that we protect pike, walleye, muskies and bass during the spawn but not trout and salmon. Most lakes with walleye like Conesus for example have no natural reproduction yet the season for walleye is still closed.

I just have a sh*t ton of them in my boat and change out the fly and retie them in the off season.

There are always browns and lake trout to fish for. April 12th will be really early this spring for salmon. Lake Erie still has a ton of ice. Guys are fishing on 24" of ice off of Sturgeon Point. Erie will still have ice for sure.

Do you live in a cave Tom? There has been hundreds of geese flying around Monroe County all winter.

Hopefully those swans are local mute swans that are over populated and not tundra swans.

I was there yesterday and it was 20" easy. NO snow on the ice either.

Buy the best you can afford. The Saltists and Catalinas are top end reels but are worth the extra money. The high gear ratios and better drag systems make life easier. I have runthe Saltist for 3 years now and love them. No issues yet.

If vanish was used for trout and salmon on Lake Ontario, tackle shops would be the twice as busy as they are now. It has poor knot strength, and it had very little abrasion resistance compared to other brands.
