If you are using okuma reels, use a reel that costs more than the spool of wire. Magda pro reels are absolute garbage. Convectors are a much better choice.

And what brand to you suggest?

I have 2 FF/GPS units on my boat. If one goes down, you have a back up of either. If you get dual frequency transducers, you can run them both at the same time and see a lot more with 2. It is amazing what you see with a 50 khz transducer compared to a 200khz transducer when the fish are deep. You get the exact opposite when the fish are shallow.

If the measurements of the line on the board is wrong, it will pull the nose towards the boat and cause it to dive. If you dig back through old posts, Yankee Troller posted the measurements for them. The half keels are full keel with half the weight. The original double keels did sink because guys were using them with a full weight on them. There is no need for a full weight.

The small rope on the board (connects to the front of the board and the back of the board) needs to be measured correctly when it is installed or they will dive and sink. If I was home right now, I would go out in the garage and get the measurements.

If they were sinking and not running true, you did not have the string lengths correct.

They should be! They both know nothing about carrying what big lake fishermen want and need!

Wave action will cause the board to flip. If it happens, scramble like crazy to clear anything in its path. It's not bad if the are all surface lines but if it is a copper or leadcore, you are going to have a mess.

I run the Power Pro because releases slide down it easier than the other stuff. I don't know if they will pull harder than the super skis but they will not flip over and cause a bad situation. I have run my otter boards in 6 -8'ers and not had any problems.

French River Lodge in Ontario. Walleye, pike and smallmouth. You are on a 16 acre island with generator power until 11pm. They pick you up by boat from Hartley Bay Marina. There are some huge muskies caught up there in late summer and into fall. The one year we arrived to see a 54" musky being weighed at Hartley Bay marina. We used to go up the last weekend of june or the first weekend of July and did really well. It was a 8 hour drive from Rochester.
