  1. if you join the LOU "pro" site theres a tournament list...
  2. I run alot of rapalas in spring. j7s are great too. typical colors- black/silver, black/crome, orange, purple, rainbow trout patterns, perch. for me its all about speed dictating the action. some days they like it slow and some days fast.
  3. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Division of Fish, Wildlife & Marine Resources Lake Ontario Unit, Cape Vincent Fisheries Station 541 E. Broadway, PO Box 292 Cape Vincent, NY 13618-0292 Phone: 315-654-2147 Fax: 315-654-4118 Website: http://www.dec.state.ny.us Problem Statement regarding the smallmouth bass fishery along the southern shore of Lake Ontario Lake Ontario smallmouth bass anglers along the southern shore of Lake Ontario (particularly Irondequoit Bay to Oswego) have experienced four consecutive years of the worst quality of bass angling, as measured by catch per angler hour, since the Lake Ontario fishing boat survey began in 1985. Fishing quality was relatively stable from 1985 through the early 1990s (1985-1994 average catch per angler hour [CPE] = 1.025), then increased to its highest level in 2002 (CPE = 2.024, and nearly 2 times higher than the 1985- 1994 average). Since then, CPE declined to the lowest recorded and the 2009 CPE (CPE=0.363) is an 82.1% decrease compared to the 2002 peak. This decline coincides with an exponential increase of round goby in angler catches. Through the 2008 season, some anglers changed their fishing strategy to avoid gobies and maintained acceptable bass catch rates. Beginning in 2009, however, these same anglers were continuing to avoid catching gobies but were unable to catch or even find smallmouth bass. Currently, the perception among the majority of bass anglers is that the bass population along the southern shore has declined. Anglers attribute the decline to VHSv die offs and recruitment failure (a consequence of perceived excessive goby predation on eggs). The current status of the southern shore bass populations is unknown. Many factors that affect Lake Ontario’s southern shore fish populations are also present and are affecting Lake Ontario’s Eastern Outlet Basin and Lake Erie, including, invasive species (round goby, VHSv, Dreissenid mussels, etc.), nutrient changes, and water clarity changes. Unlike the southern shore, however, both regions continue to provide quality bass angling. Reports to NYSDEC from anglers that target bass in these regions indicate that Lake Ontario’s Eastern Outlet Basin and Lake Erie continue to provide good quality bass fisheries and high quality bass. In recent years many anglers are reporting catches of the largest bass ever caught in those regions, which agrees with growth and condition information collected during gillnetting assessment.
  4. and 20' for flashers and 22' for spoons
  5. The area i was talking about is the genny area. Im not sure exactly where the stocking locations are. Here check these out: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/23313.html http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/23248.html
  6. check out "bretts place on the bay" its a great ebay store site http://stores.ebay.com/BRETTS-PLACE-ON-THE-BAY
  7. Stocking numbers havent change since the close. I know that last year the area recieved "leftovers" from the DEC which actually increased the overall stocking for the year.
  8. Well the bay must be completely void of all perch because we couldnt catch them today. ScottB and myself experienced one of the worse outings in years while ice fishing. Fishing with tip downs and jigging rods, and only a couple of perch landed (none by me). Did manage a 29" pike on a tip down and lost 2 others. ScottB also caught one and i saw a couple more landed by others. Water is alittle cloudy and there still is plenty of ice.
  9. Copper is just another method of deployment. Its not replacing wire/dipsey setups but it does replace leadcore in deep water applications. If you run leadcore then you know what the benefit is, if you dont then you should.
  10. Depends on the depth your looking to achieve... 450' of copper will get you down 99'. 20-22' per 100' of copper. If you decide to only buy 1 setup then i would suggest a 600' copper. If your planning on buying two copper setups i would suggest buying 2 different lengths for example: 300' and 450' or 450' and 600' so that you can cover more water when running them on the boards. When running them on board you need to clip the release onto the backing. So you are forced into using the entire length of copper. When you run it down the chute you are flatlining it so you can run any length you want. A 600' copper down the chute gives you the option of working alot of different depths just by how much line you let out. No matter what you choose make sure you have your setups mark every 50' so you can know how much you do have out.
  11. If your looking only to achieve depths between 15-25' than i would stick to leadcore. The longer lenght of leadcore needed to achieve that depth will allow it to get away from the boat alittle more. Due to the faster sink rate of copper, it is affected by turns and speed changes more quickly than lead.
  12. The ice is still ugly on the south end and only getting worse with the nice weather. The NE corner is producing some fish but they tend to be small. Not a ton of good reports from iron.
  13. stealth= camo and 30# all the way.
  14. Just a warning...dont get suckered into their book club. If you want their books ill sell you all of mine lol. Decient magazine and club. Tons of small, members benefits.
  15. Dont forget we also had 2 pike break offs and one landed on the tip downs. Weve had alot of pike action this year while perch fishing.
  16. We will be out there in the morning. Look for the Blue "clams" out past buttonwood and stop by.
  17. Is the rumor true Tom, that Oswego is renaming itself to A-Tom-swego? congrats Tom!
