  1. Well, their prices SEEM reasonable, so I decided to buy one of the Diamond Thunders to check them out. A single spoon did not meet the minimum ($10) order, so I added a second to my cart and went to check out. The shipping charge for 2 spoons is over $10! Are you kidding me? That should cost less than $1 to send anywhere in the country. I sent them an e-mail to see what they are smokin'. I'll let you know if I hear back.
  2. Troll Master is still alive and kicking. I have this unit on my boat and love it. http://www.troll-masterpro.com/
  3. Chowder, This bracket is the only one I know of that can accommodate your request. I have the OMC bracket on my boat with a 9.9 4-stroke, and it has held up well for 10 years now. if I had to do it over again I might look at a stationary bracket like this to allow the kicker to be closer to the center of the boat. http://www.goodboatgear.com/detail/4007 ... %20Bracket Good luck with your endeavor. FYI - I have a Merc 8 HP kicker on my walleye boat. You almost can't hear the thing run!
  4. Anyone know when they pull the docks at the public launch? Mayers still do launches this time of the year? I'd like to hit the bay this weekend for some perch.
  5. 1. Crazy B!tch 2. Hawg Wild 3. Mt. Dew 4. Blue Dolphin Had best luck with running longer fly leads behind Crazy B!tch and Hawg Wild this year. Seems like the shyer fish liked the long leads. Always ran matched flasher/flies on these 2. Not much luck on the riggers with these, but wire divers were hot.
  6. Sorry Stan, couldn't resist. Hey - I have that same finder/gps on my walleye boat. How do you like yours? Do you ever have problems with your screen fogging? I'm not sure it gets cold enough there to see the fogging issue!
  7. Hey TTL, I don't want to rain on your buddy's parade, but he may want to sharpen his pencil. http://www.bethel-marine.com/Raymarine_Ray49.htm
  8. This is the way I terminate to a Klincher: Just drill out the rivet and replace with a 10-32 stainless machine screw and Nylok nut. A small ring terminal crimped on the end of the coated cable (coating removed under the crimp, of course) completes the circuit. This is not my picture BTW. I use a much smaller loop, and also terminate the Klincher to a Black's release instead of the snap shown above. Also, I typically now use Scotty releases, and the "shaft" of the Black's release provides a very convenient place for the clip on the Scotty release.
  9. None of the above. The last 3 or 4 years I have gotten out the first week of November before pulling the boat. A couple of these trips have been a shorts & tee-shirt run offshore for some nice steelie and teenage kings. It's pretty fun being 12 miles offshore in November enjoying the sun and spanking steelies while having the lake to yourself! I even watched a Bills game out there a few years ago on a portable TV on a sunny day in early November.
  10. Greg, Priceless pic! Good to see you got her going and got a little slime on the deck to boot. Take your time to get her rigged right and you should get many years of enjoyment! BTW - You are out of uniform! I believe you need to purchase some size 12 blue Crocs!
  11. Hey guys - thanks for the feedback. I actually used a spare Scotty downrigger release last time and it worked o-k. Carl, I will probably ever only run 1 copper per side, so my situation is a lot easier. I should have pointed that out. I usually fish with 3 people max, so I just need a way to get my copper or full core out away from the rest of the spread. Gambler - I always buy the Scotty stackers - you get two releases for the price of 1. I'll pick up a couple of these and I should be all set. I also like the Scotty planer releases. They will almost work with 300' copper in the heavier setting. Thanks again for the responses.
  12. Topic says it all. What do you guys use with success? I get nuisance trips no matter what I use. Thanks for the help.
  13. Hey Tom, I guess we got out just before you and came in right after you. The Border Patrol boat was just heading out of the channel (on plane) when we came in. They did a quick loop and headed back in behind us. Anyway - we only went 2 for 3. A nice medium dark 22-24 pound king on a mag glow frog 68 down over 110 and a really small brown. The other was a short bite. We worked straight out of the river from 60 to 150 feet. A pretty good screen inside but we couldn't get anything to go. Never got flasher/fly or Familiar Bite to go. Pulled lines at about 10:30 and went to work. A nice day to be out though.
  14. Miss em, are you saying that if your engine is running hot, your stator is somewhere is a very cool area? I don't understand.
  15. Anyone wanna buy the new hottest spoon from Dreamweaver? It's called the SSS (Super Slim Stealth). I have a few of them now to sell.
  16. I just went through replacing the power pack on my 9.9 Johnson 4-stroke. I did some research, and it appears that these 2 items are the most common replacement items. Apparently they are sensitive to heat. How old is the water pump? Does the tell-tale was a strong stream? I guess there is also a possibility of deposit build-up on the thermostat that can restrict flow. I will be changing out t-stat and water pump at the end of the season, and probably make these an every other year maintenance item.
  17. Sneaked out of work a little early and decided to run to the deep water. Headed straight out of the river and set up in 325 at about 5:30PM. Out by myself, so just 2 rods. Set up the rigger with 42 second down 85-90 and SS Steelie Dan as a free slider. Crazy B!tch SD/Fly on the wire. Rigger fires within minutes - a small steelhead on the Steelie Dan. Reset and it fires again, this time a 7-8 pounder. You probably see a pattern forming. The Steelie Dan was HOT! After the 5th steelhead on this spoon, it came up completely silver - no paint left! I replaced it with a SS Chicken Wing and ran it for 20 minutes - no go. Remembered I had another Steelie Dan in the cabin. Set it out and it released before I got back to my seat! Traded out the main spoon for an old school mag sized spoon. Black with green stripe and white cup. Knocked most of the rust of the hooks and sent her down. This spoon landed a nice 8-9 pound steelie and finished my night off with a 20-22 pound king at 7:45. Finished up 8 for 12. Not bad for 2 1/2 hours alone! 7 steelies and one king. All fish were spunky and released. Only was able to get 1 rip on the wire when I was resetting the rigger, so I couldn't get to it in time. That was a Hawg Wild SD/Fly out 125 set on 2 to get me in the 40' steelie zone. Worked from 325 to 475. Best production was in 325 to 375. Good screen out deeper, but couldn't get them to go.
  18. Reel Drag, I have the DS600X and have never had that problem. Do you take your unit on and off often? Maybe you have a loose connection at the transducer plug? I believe Tom B. AKA Longline has the same FF as you - maybe he can offer input if he reads this or you can PM him. YT - I thought bass fisherman LOVED Lowrance products? That is all you see them use on TV anyway...
  19. Hey salmonhunter4 - are you using roller rods? I'm wondering if the 19-strand might be better suited for rollers than the 7-strand due to the friction standard rod guides may cause. I am using Talora roller rods and haven't noticed any fraying issues.
  20. I've been running it this year. I like it. It definitely doesn't kink easily, and the manufacturer states that if it does, you can pull out the kink and not lose any strength. It also doesn't seem to curl. It is really soft! Same diameter as others (.015). It is almost like working with mono. Flea issues seem about the same or only slightly better (though the manufacturer claims it is "Less prone to Spiny Water Fleas then 7 strand"). The only problem I have had was getting it off the spool and on to the reel! The manufacturer originally shipped the product on wide spools, and it was not wound tightly. I purchased 3 spools from Torpedo this spring. 1 went on without a hitch, the other 2 were a PITA! Because it wasn't wound tightly from the manufacturer, it would dig back in to itself and not come off the spool easily. I had to cut one of the lines and throw it away. I contacted Torpedo and they sent me another one (good customer service). I had a problem with that one as well, but got it on the reel without damage. They followed up with me, and I told them that I really like the product, but wouldn't recommend it until they addressed their spooling issues. A few weeks later they sent me an e-mail stating that they switched to a narrow spool, which solves the issues I had. I see that they now show the new packaging on their web-site.
  21. FYI - A very similar product is available from Amish Outfitters called the Spoon Pouch. I bought one this year and really like it. Here is a pic and a link to their web-site: http://www.amishoutfitters.com/catalog2.htm
  22. gaj, I have a 1999 version of that same boat. It has taken me a while to get it rigged the way I want, but I think I am there. Shoot me a message or give me a call at 585-739-7608. If you want to come take a look I'd be happy to show you what I have.
  23. T.M. There are a lot of options. Here is the one I have, and you can get it for $350 to $400. Plan on another $200 for the map chip of your choice. http://www.standardhorizon.com/indexVS. ... Archived=0 I picked this one after using it on a friends boat. The ease of use blew away the small Raymarine unit I had. Good Luck.
