You may consider some "rubber meat"......... MCRockets. There's a learning curve, and a time and a place for them, but I prefer them to real meat 80% of the time.

My experience is that they work very well........ I really can't think of cons...... I've used them for ducks and pigeons, and set up a rechargable battery to use with them...... As for size, I'm not sure it matters much...... I've used a mojo dove in with duck decoys, and they really don't seem to care..... it's the flash that attracts them.....

I think you can pretty much give up on Federal Agencies caring about what critters the local sportsmen want in their ecosystems. They have an agenda and your opinion isn't important........ just ask any elk hunter living in Montana, Idaho, or Wyoming what they think about the Federal wolf re-introduction programs. The Feds agenda was to reestablish a native species, regardless of the impact on game populations...... sound familiar? -

where are the salmon
Traveling Circus replied to Jose's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
The politicians with the most "at stake" might be the Senators whose districts bound the LO shoreline..... The economies of these counties are greatly enhanced by the success of anglers largely targeting kings...... District 62 Robert Ortt - Niagara / Orleans / Monroe District 56 Joe Robach - Monroe District 55 Rich Funke - Monroe District 54 Michael Nozzolio - Wayne District 48 Patty Ritchie - Cayuga / Oswego / Jefferson Give them a shout......... Perhaps an organized shout would be most effective. Organized petition? -

where are the salmon

Could it be that water temps influence fish behavior and location and even which streams they are likely to run? A week ago, the lake was setting up beautifully for staging kings, and we were taking kings in 60 - 120 fow with meat rigs..... another week of W wind, and I think we'd have seen a "normal" late summer pattern, but instead the East wind blew for 2 1/2 days, and temps went to hell, and the fish scattered. As bad as the lake fishing was last year, last fall was my best season ever in the creeks for kings. I think there's a lot of "luck" and weather that goes into where the fish are......... -
Fished with my daughter this morning out of Dunkirk, and finished with 12 fish by 11:15. All harnesses. Divers and riggers. 70 -90 FOW. Probably 25 silver bass.......

When does the fishing die in the lake?
Traveling Circus replied to Pa223's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
There is excellent fishing available in the lake, but there are few fishermen out on it after the 2nd or 3rd week of September..... so finding fish is up to you..... it can be hit or miss.... and because there are fewer boats out there to help if you have mechanical trouble, please be careful and pick your days wisely.... -

duk..... pretty sure that thermocline "off Buffalo" is gone.... I fished out of SP yesterday, and the 55 F water that was there a week ago was now in the mid 60's. There's still a temperature gradient from top to bottom, but the coldest water I saw yesterday was 62.... It didn't hurt the fishing though as my daughter and I boxed a limit on harnesses. 4 color, 5 color, riggers and divers all took fish......

Nice article about lake Erie walleye and growth rates. Some of those 2003 fish have shown up on this forum! http://www.cleveland.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2015/04/lake_erie_walleye_anglers_want.html

According to the Pa fish commission, a 10 lb Lake Erie walleye is about 10 year old..... I know you can age them from growth rings on the scales.....I've just never got ahold of a scale from one that's 28 lbs...... perhaps one that's that large..... is on a different growth curve .... longer growing period, etc..... bad question.... sorry.
