  1. I find interfacing the gps to the autopilot very useful. The ap will hold a much better course when steering to a waypoint I have a lot of stucture in the area that I fish and run between points on the plotter most of the time. I makes it easy to pick a spot or a depth on the plotter and hit one button and walk away from the wheel. I also have it tied into the radar which also has many advantages. It is only two wires! well worth it in my opinion.
  2. We were a couple miles west. The fish were high because of the cold water. didn't mark alot. Fished 120 to 240 divers at 180, #3 and 220#3 2 riggers at 50'and 65'. all flys went 6 for 13 by noon. 2 guys.
  3. Do you have a paypal account? I may be interested. Thanks
  4. Slime You have to turn on the outputs in the gps menu of the Lowrance unit. HM
  5. Dick There are a few kings in the 80 to 100 foot range. Good looking screens in 40 to 60 Sat. Offshore bite is slow but the normal Juvi kings and steelhead are there 200+. Have had king action since Memorial weekend. best day half a dozen, sometimes one. About 15 kings between 12 and 20# alot of 4# to 8#. Not that bad compared to last year. I have not spent much time on the browns since the spring loc. Dave
  6. The simrad is a rotary drive cable, not a rack and pinion. Unless they have changed. The rotary cable end resembles an unwound spring around the end of the cable, It works like a screw thread to move the cable. You may have to buy a new rotory cable for your application http://www.nicksoutboardmarine.com/stee ... ables.html
  7. Like Ray said. I've seen new boats leak. I fished a '77 Starcraft 22' SS HARD until 3 years ago and loved it. I had to repair a few rivets and a couple of floors in 25 years. (wore the heads off some of the rivets from loading and launching) Bunk trailer recomended. If kept in good repair, an aluminum will out last those "plastic boats". I replaced her with a '97 Lund Baron and its been good so far. hope this helps, HM
  8. John, It pretty much needs the full ten inches. The motor housing is attached to the end of the steering box. It may be possible to cut a hole in your bulkhead and fabricate a cover from starboard or a similar material. It may be worth looking into to get rid of a sport pilot. I have a motor ass'y at home if you really need a picture ,I could dig it out. Dave
  9. O.K. Tim There is nothing wrong with having extra info on a boat. I think I would rather spend the extra couple hundred on tackle or beer. I have fished with both models and they seem equal to me. I havn't changed my gain since I set it three years ago. Tight lines to ya!
  10. Consumer marine electronics is where I got mine.
  11. Dave The 14r has a small lcd readout for heading and tracking. I have the 12r and have it networked to the radar and gps. The info on the 14 is redundant in my opinion. HM
  12. I was told to use hem-fur plywood, coat with yard resin (lower cost fiberglass resin) Top with Nautilex. Defender had the best price on my last floor. not a bad job. Have done a 22' starcraft twice in 25 years.
  13. I get mine at Advance Auto NGK's for both my motors. $!.65
  14. You can run anything or color that is working. I usually run matched pairs and some days I will run 8 of the same spoon. Black Magic is a good bet. Keep in mind you will catch doubles on one rod from time to time. I have had it happen several times a season. The best was a couple years ago with a 28# and 19# king on the same rod. G.Loomis rod with 20# big game. Both in the boat and scooped in the same net!! Great memory. HM
  15. I have a Lund and it has stainless hardware everywhere. Motor, bow rails, trim etc. I used stainless on my '77 starcraft and fished it for 30 years. Hope this helps HM
  16. I make my own out of a cedar board, eye hooks and a clipper release. Not to difficult.
  17. Hey Stan, I left you a voicemail. I found some discontinued new units like mine on ebay. Let me know if you want to bid. They have warranty and free shipping.
  18. I was able to clear up alot of electronic noise by putting a 2' antenna extension on the vhf antenna. It will get the coil above tour other stuff.
  19. Name: Dave Snyder Boat Name: Holy Mackerel Boat Make:'97 Lund 215 Baron Magnum cuddy Port: Hughes Marina and campground (Williamson, wayne county) Years Fishing LO: 30 years
  20. I prefer the subtroll to the fishhawk I had before. The anolog speedometer seems much more stable than the lcd. Good service from a local company, made in Buffalo.
  21. A soft top will get a better ride than the same boat with a hardtop in rough water, because of the lower center of gravity. About the only advantage though. Over time canvas is expensive, waterproofing and curtain replacement. I think canvas is cooler, but mine is a light color sunbrella which breathes. The extra mounting space would sway me toward the hardtop.
  22. Mahogony or white oak, don't use red oak. different cell structure. White is what wine barrels are made of. Mahogony will finish up very close to teak at 1/3 the price.
