  1. Here is a fairly correct weather website (this is not a phishing trick) https://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-78.71978759765626&lat=43.36154814173986
  2. The Cormorants probably do.
  3. Ready for some Laurel and Hardy slapstick
  4. So on walleye you are strictly catch&filet instead of catch&release
  5. I remember seeing pictures a few years ago of ice damming in the Niagara River that actually had ice having been pushed onto shore 5 or 6 feet high. I have always been under the impression that towards the end of winter strong western winds could brake up the ice on Lake Eerie and push it into the river with massive force and on its way into the river causing blockages and all sorts of uncontrollable events. and that that was the reason for the boom. The video seems to suggest that ice passing through the river is very gradual and non eventful.
  6. Sorry, but this sounds very much like opinion and without facts to support it. Please do share some factual evidence if you want to convince me of your claim
  7. Funny, I always feel bad when I get a small fish and I waste no time returning it, specially in spring when the water is still cold throughout and the fish is caught fairly high up. I use light rubber bands with my rods loaded as much as I can to still set the hooks to prevent small fish from becoming hitch hikers.
  8. I find that rods that are over 8 foot length, become cumbersome to use on a boat they get caught in all sorts of things. So my suggestion would be to stick with 8 foot ugly stick rods.
  9. What does a bikini bottom shark weight look like?
  10. Thank you.
  11. Thanks for the heads up. Do you have his phone# so I can contact him?
  12. I' seriously thinking about joining you there
  13. I just did some reading up on wolves and coyote populations. Mostly because this morning on my walk I saw 4 coyotes in a piece of unused land in Brighton. ( I like to call it turkey park). It made me wonder as to how many coyote there are per 1000 acres compared to how many wolves there would be on that same amount of land. I have heard it said that wolves have territories of hundreds of square miles and that they do not tolerate coyote. Would wolves actively lessen the coyote problem? Or are both the same?
  14. Pumping it around only moves the problem around If as I presume, it is sand, I would do as the Dutch do all the time. They would pump it to low places on land. Every day when it is dry enough, push it up into a pile until there is a very big pile of sand/fill. Truck it away and put it to good use. The dutch have at least a thousand years of successful dealing with water, muck, sand, wind and waves. so we might just as well use their tricks.
  15. Besides, the state can offer those who were fired at least temporary jobs to do the work. The problem here is that the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly. I am not sure that there is a Canadian firm involved. These Canadians are quite possibly full time employees of the Canadian government. Maybe using the Canadian manpower and equipment is the most economical way to go.
  16. There are fewer and fewer hunters in the woods each year. We may need the wolves to regulate the deer population and possibly control chronic wasting disease.
  17. I have always used the 12 pound torpedoes, but I have always wondered if there are any downrigger weights that have side fins under an angle that push the weight down and thereby forward much like a dipsy diver pushes sideways. Or is it really the water resistance of the cable that causes the back blow and if so, what would be the cable with the least blowback. Also, what is the best material to spray on lead torpedoes in order to cover the lead?
  18. That is amazing. You are lucky to have seen it and on your kicker. It could have done some serious damage
  19. The problem with that is that gobies are warmish water bottom feeders (At least during the summer). The kings and most trout(except browns) like it cold and they feed around the thermocline. Do you have any suggestions as in how to get enough gobie supply for your idea ?
  20. Thank you for putting this up.
  21. I considered this move myself, but decided against it ,mostly because in NY state I get bang for my tax buck and because the educational level of the NY public school system is a lot better than in the states where the taxes are lower.
  22. Looking at this thread, I came to realize yet again how few members actually participate and try to positively contribute to the subject in case. How much must it turn off other readers who want to be informed about the thread subject matter. It is almost as if we try to monopolize every opportunity to throw virtual rocks at each other for I don't even know what reason . Maybe it would be a good idea to open an insult and mud thrower forum so we can be safely insulated and away from other members who are just interested in the subject matter and not in our endless and mostly self repeating monologues. What say you Hank?
  23. Make sure you have fuel in your generator. Electrons are about to become very expensive, or worse, somebody might shut off the electron hose and leave us in the dark
  24. Last year, I spent about 3 hours looking at the kings that went into the concrete channel on their way to be used for egg taking. Not for study but because it is a sight to behold and I came all the way from Rochester to see it. The great majority were mediocre sized fish between 15 and sometimes 20 pounds. Anything larger than that were very few and very far between. I clocked 30 minutes and saw only 2 very large fish come in , but the channel was loaded with mediocre fish. It would require the hatchery at least a few more days to select only the large specimens and even then I doubt if they would be able to get enough eggs to reach the required quota. In my opinion there should be fry from out west shipped over in order to get big ones into the mix. Maybe a variation that takes 4 or 5 years before they come in to spawn.
  25. I agree that we need to take care of our debt. The problem is that we, the little guys do pay our taxes. So it is very upsetting for us to see these programs being cut. At the same time multinational companies and many other large businesses have decided to put their headquarters in other countries that only charge nominal taxes ,Ireland is Apple headquarters for instance. Big business has big political power and usually pays very little to zero taxes because of that. There are so many shell companies in for instance the Kayman Islands and Bermuda that are set up by big businesses in order to hide money that should be taxed. I would really like it if MAGA would concentrate on these tax evading policies. Specially because, in the end Jo Shmo republican and Jo Shmo Democrat are neighbors who usually try to help each other out in all the small and sometimes big affairs that neighbors help each other out with. So how about we stop allowing manipulators from trying to get us at each other's throats ,or at least stop listening to them and listen to and help our neighbors instead, because in the end we have a lot more in common with our neighbors, than with big business. Being divided is not in our interest but only in the divider's interest.
