  1. 9. All participants shall present their Tournament tickets when weighing in their fish. NO EXCEPTIONS. All entries must be at the weight station no later that 3:00PM. A participant may weigh-in fish in other derbies depending on other derby/tournament rules and regulations. Do all members of a team on a boat have to buy a ticket or is it one participation fee for a team?
  2. It my feeling that there was nothing wrong with the original setup of the pro-am. The economy went down the drain and that started in 2007. The pro-ams suffered a hard blow because of it. It is however very bad policy to make it more expensive when the economy is bad and yet hope for more participation. If the cost would have been lowered with lower winnings, there probably would have been a lot more teams who would have happily competed in the original setup. It is never a good idea to make things more expensive and thereby more exclusive when money is tight. On another note, I just reread my original post and quite frankly, it smells of poor sportsmanship. I would like to apologize if I hurt any ones feelings because most of my comments were uncalled for.
  3. No, only 27 that were in the Pro-Am. One had to drop out. The Oswego Pro-Am was fun but the odds were stacked in favor of the the teams with the big fast boats. On Saturday many of them raced off to fish in front of Sodus and they got their 12 fish limit and raced back. The smaller and slower boats could not make that trip and as a result they ended in the bottom field. Sunday was hard for everybody,but again the teams with the most advanced electronics could go searching for fish at a relatively high speed. Yes, participation was fun,but I got away with the feeling this new setup is stacked against the weekend warriors. Noting that only 28 teams signed up, shows that a lot of last year's participants voted with their feet. It is also interesting that a few weeks ago we got an e-mail informing us about the price money based on forty participating teams,while never mentioning the actual number of participants at the time. I think that next year we will also vote with our feet.
  4. If you have the possibility of taking a through hull then that is the way to go.The p66 is ok but only ok, not great.
  5. "The cleanest fish as far as pollutants is supposedly tuna" That was before they checked on mercury. Now according to the Sierra Club magazine it is the fish with the highest mercury content,so high that daily consumption of tuna actually causes mercury poisoning. The DEC has very clear advice concerning the consumption of fish out of Lake Ontario,as does its Canadian counterpart. These 2 agencies are the only ones around that do research to back up their advice. All the other comments here are opinion based. I will stick to research backed advice.
  6. They have been around for a long time now, but their spawn has a very low survival rate. This is because they do not have very good camouflage coloring.
  7. According to a bulletin sent out by Evinrude in 1964, every engine built from 1963 on has needle bearings and can be run run with a 1:50 mix. That is, if you use TCW-3 two stroke oil. Any Evinrude/Johnson engine up to 5.5 horse had bushings until 1978 and those engines must be run with a 1:24 mix. Hope this helps.
  8. That is a 1961 and you will need to run it on 1:24 mix. It still has bushings instead of needle bearings. They are very powerful and dependable engines.

It gave a great fight and show, but we could not use it for this tournament. Next were a few skippies and some steelies. Then came a 28 pound +king which took about half an hour to reel in. Shortly afterwards we had a cluster something with 2 leadcore lines involved,while at the same time we had a double hookup with 2 kings. One on a 30 pound line, the other on a 10 pound line.The fist to come in after 20 minutes got himself onto the dipsy wire and somehow this opened the swivel and right behind the boat it got off. The other on the 10 pound line was brought in patiently and with great skill. It was netted and tipped the scales at 22 pounds. A few skippies later, the leadcore went screaming out of the reel and we were convinced that this would be another king,but it turned out to be a 15 pound plus brown we netted. This one is currently 4th on the LOC board.There was another steely and it was time to come in and go to Oswego for the weigh in. I would like to thank Tom for a very well organized, very pleasant and friendly tournament. It was really nice to be at the weigh in and festivities surrounding this event, great food too.   12. If it is monster carp that you seek, the place to go is the entrance of Irondeqoit bay in the evenings. The carp are spawning and they come in from the lake to spawn in the shallows of Mayers marina.I have caught quite a few there on a night crawler.   13. The one thing that you must consider is stretch. Lead core does not have any and nor does braid. Using both means that you have zero stretch in your line. You must set your slip looser than you would if you fish with mono
  14. If it was your first birthday suit it would be ok, but now we are talking your 60th birthday and that is way less bearable.
  15. When you get into this expensive stuff you will find that, specially transducers come in many levels of sensitivity. Some transducers are great for bottom view at 1500 feet down and others are really good at 15 feet. Sensitivity of the transducers is probably the most important quality in a fish finder. Having a fish finder and a gps on the same screen is a matter of preference. I just need to keep on reminding myself that a fish finder does not catch fish,it just helps a bit .

I am in the process of choosing which fish finder to install on my new to me Islander and after having seen on the Spoonfed what the Furuno 582 is capable of there seem to be only 2 choices.Either Furuno or Sitex. My choices are narrowed down to the Furuno 610/620 or the Sitex SVS 650. There's plenty of people on this board with the Furuno 610/620 ,but the Sitex SVS 650 claims to have the same specs as the Furuno, with a bigger screen (like the 582), it also claims to be a lot more user friendly and it is about three hundred dollars cheaper. Does anybody have any experience or heard of opinions with the SVS 650? If so,please give your opinion. Thanks,Cornelis.

  18. You can get the tool online for under $43 including shipping (Ebay). I just bought it and used it today for my Islander with mercruiser. If you have any suspicion about the quality of the alignment,take it right back to the shop and have them do it right in front of you and take pictures while they do it. If the alignment is correct ,the tool should just slide in without any force. If it was a lousy job you will very soon find yourself buying a new drive shaft and the female part in the engine.$$$$$. Make sure it was done right.
  19. We had a great time fishing the derby. It was beautiful weather and although the fishing could have been better,the family atmosphere that surrounds this little derby makes it a truly joyous event. It was a bit sad to see the Spoonfed in her moorings and not on the water fishing. I hope you will be ably to rejoin the salmon chasing crowds soon. Give us a heads up on how you're doing. Cornelis

  21. Another thing is fuel supply. If it does fine on the low end,but sputters as you go up,it may well be that your fuel supply is lacking. There may be an air leak in the fuel supply hoses somewhere. The fuel pump creates a vacuum that sucks the fuel to the carbs, but if there is any place where air gets into your lines (pin holes) it will happily suck that air instead. Fuel hoses with a ball pump are infamous for that sort of trouble. You may have a clogged filter on the pickup in your tank or pump. To check this sort of thing you can take any old bottle ,put some fuel in there and connect it to a hose that goes directly to the carb. Hold the bottle well above the engine and start her up. If she does well,you know that your carb is fine. Next, connect the hose to the fuel pump and hold the bottle well below the pump. Start her up again if she does fine again you know that your problem is farther back.If it does not ,you may have a dirty fuel filter in your pump or the pump itself has a bad diafragm, or whoever repaired the carbs did open the fuel pump and did not put everything back in the right order That way by trial and deduction you should be able to pinpoint your problem. If on the other hand,she smokes like a fiend,you have too much fuel,which means that the float was either not seated properly,or that there is a hole in the float which causes it to fill up with fuel and sink,there by causing the engine to flood,but that should happen both at high and low rpm. One more thing.Try to run it without the engine cover and see if it runs better, if it does your air supply is problematic and this may be caused by exhaust gas leaking out and replacing the air under the cowling. Last thing for now,make sure that your choke (electric?) is not stuck in closed position. It is always a very good idea to buy an ORIGINAL factory manual of your engine. Don't waste your money on a Seloc or some other inferior manual. If none of this works for you,you may have to replace your points, but for now ,just pull both plugs and see if they are both the same color. If one is very clean,it may be time for another head gasket Good luck.
