When you replace an impeller there is only one way to insert it into the pump. You must turn the drive shaft clock wise while you lower the pump housing onto the impeller. It is a very good idea to squirt some dawn onto the fins while inserting and do turn the drive shaft clock wise while tightening the bolts to make sure nothing get caught. If you have the fins turned the wrong way it's life will be short and it will not work right.Make sure that there are no bugs plugging the hose.

The first good catches are usually on or close to the Niagara Bar,so my guess would be that they like to hang out in the fertile lake Eerie water coming down the falls.

My favorite is "Spray Nine" available at the Home depot in spray bottles or by the gallon. Just spray it on and let it sit for a minute then wipe and wash it off. I use it on the grease spots on the boat seats also.

You can pull the boat after you are done fishing and pull all the plugs from the manifold and the block and remove the hoses just like you would do when you winterize. It only takes about 10 minutes to do that.

I am in the process of cleaning out my Sylvan. It has a 1985 75 horse Mercury with tilt and trim and a brand new never used remote control box and possibly a 1964 9.5 Evinrude long shaft kicker with remote control( lol probably the only longshaft 9.5 on the east coast).Both engines are in good running condition and were winterized last fall. Also last fall,the impellers on both engines were replaced as was the lower unit oil.On the 9.5 I also replaced the plugs, the points,the condensers and the head gasket. The boat has been used for the past 4 years on Lake Ontario for salmon fishing and it did quite well. It is fine for the big lake ,but because it is light weight and easy trailerable it is also great for the finger lakes It has a 1985 Teenee trailer with LED lighting, bearing buddies, 2 year old bearings and tires and a spare. There is a transom saver with the trailer. Trolling with the merc works fine but with the Evinrude it is much cheaper in fuel. Compression readings are: 153/154/153/152 on the mercury and 80/80 on the Evinrude In 2010 I replaced the transom and the floor.The wood backing in all the cushions has been replaced over the past 2 years.The boat has 2 bilge pumps,one automatic,the other is activated by flicking a switch on the dash board. I am thinking $2500 for the setup with the remote control, the kicker,kicker bracket and EZ steer and $2000 without all that stuff. My coming season will be fished in an Islander. If you go from 19 to 17 you would need an extra 400 rpm to stay at the same top speed. If you go down to 15 it would be 800 rpm. Every boat is different because of weight and ways that this weight is stowed in the boat. But is is fairly easy to calculate. Lets for convience assume that your top speed is 30 mph. Then 3 mph would need 10% of the extra 400 rpm =40 rpm and 1 mph would need 13 rpm If you would go at 3mph at 900rpm with your current prop, you would use 300 rpm per mile. Dropping down to 17 pitch would mean that in order to go 3mph you would have to go 940 rpm. That would mean 313 rpm per mile. So you would be able to run 2 mph at 626 rpm with a 17 pitch and with a 15 pitch it would be 652 rpm. This is not entirely accurate ,but I don't want to bore you with calculus. Anyway, the above calculations are your key. Now just use this for your own special situation. As for fuel savings,going down in pitch will not save you any fuel. In fact, you would use more. It would be better to use a little 9.9 kicker.That would save fuel and you would still have the right prop for your boat sitting on the main engine. Cornelis.

I was just thinking that Fat Nancy,A-tom-mik, Narby,Captains Cove and the Slippery sinker to name just a few, would probably do much better business from hundreds of happy amateurs who would now have a few dollars left over to buy some stuff. Heck at those prices I might be able to rent lodgings for the weekend or at least get myself a nice dinner in a restaurant before going back home. You would be a happy winner or looser without having broken the bank.

According to the Cortland people, your 18 pound test will go deeper because, due to a tighter weave,the diameter is smaller. I use 18 pound for my 6 color reels and 27 for the 8 and 10 color reels

Great job,you must have enjoyed doing that.

They are a protected species in Lake Ontario and as such they should not be targeted. Over the last 10 years there has been an effort to stock them in the Genesee River with some success. A few 4 footers are swimming in our lake and river. Come to think of it,last year during a fishing derby,one of the professional teams caught one on the Niagara bar.

A few days ago I was out there.Not fishing but just running up to our cottage to make sure everything is as it should be. I ran from the the southern tip along the west side up to just opposite the boy scout camp and stayed within 50 yards off the shore. There were plenty of hooks on the finder in about 35 feet of water most of the way. I don't know what they were, but 35 means that they are either just on top of the drop of ,or floating just along the top side over deeper water.

That is one problem we do not have this winter.

Great news. Where did you launch? How sanded up is the outlet?

I drove by the outlet parking lot last Friday afternoon and there was an empty trailer, so yes people are fishing. The launch docks are completely out of the water ,but the water is fairly high and Mayers on the other side has his launch open. Did anybody try to go out into the lake from here? On my last trip in December, the east side of the channel was completely filled with sand and the west side was filling up as well.

Great idea. There are lots of people who want to observe for a season in order to pick up valuable fishing experience. At the same time we are creating a reservoir of knowledgeable and motivated observers who can be brought into contact with teams in need of an observer right here at Lotsa.
