  1. Thanks,it is a lot of fun. Next Sunday is again quiet with southern winds and no waves.Am I gonna be the only one again or will there be a few boats?
  2. There is probably some very good news just around the corner on the front of plasma physics. Last week on NPR Science Friday there was an interview with an inventor who is successfully cutting the cost of plasma science fusion by roughly 95%. Instead of using the traditional extremely expensive accelerators (billions) he came up with an idea of inserting the materials into a centrifuge loaded with very hot gasified lead and while the material is in the center of this centrifuge he bombards it with shots of extremely highly pressurized air thereby increasing the velocity of the material to where it turns into plasma. So far the project looks very promising.
  3. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Rolmops ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):11-13-'11 Time on Water:1 pm-4 pm Weather/Temp:55 Wind Speed/Direction:none Waves: none Surface Temp: 48 Location:east of I-Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: more than 20 Total Boated:19 Species Breakdown:Brown trout. Hot Lure: we tried different sizes and patterns and they hit on every spoon .Towards evening we used some patterns with more whites in them and they were also hit. Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed:2.6 Boat Depth: 40 to 50 Lure Depth: 24 to 35 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Same as last Sunday, constant hits ,but this time my friend John was with me so we caught almost every last one that hit, although we also got some dinks that were dragged along. Nothing big this time, most fish were in the 18 to 20 inch range The biggest surprise came that as we decided to call it quits,we had hits on both the leadcores and both down riggers which made for a succesful foursome that was boated. I will try again next Sunday. Cornelis. ====================
  4. Try and read again. It identifies the lure as a "Stinger Superman" but I will help you even more. It is S97 or if you prefer the metallic version S126. S stands for Scorpion. Next time please try to read the entire post. And as for goldfish. If you don't read the NYS bait fish regulations completely you might think that goldfish is legal bait.
  5. I'll keep you informed. Cornelis.
  6. That's what my main concern is,and that is why I thought about splicing a few 50 foot sections into the core
  7. I think you would be fine in Canadian waters, that thing has more fire power than Her Majesty's Canadian Navy.
  8. Ditto here. Stupidity should hurt!
  9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Rolmops ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):11-6-2011 Time on Water:09.00-15.00 Weather/Temp:great,mid 40 to mid 60 Wind Speed/Direction:southern Waves: 1 foot Surface Temp: 49.8 Location:East of I-Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: about thirty Total Boated:about 25 Species Breakdown: Browns and a laker Hot Lure: stinger superman Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 2.6 Boat Depth: 40 Lure Depth: 30 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS It was supposed to be a perch fishing day, but after launching there seemed to be more waves in the bay than on the lake,so I decided to give the lake a try. Using a 6 color, an 8 color lead core and a rigger at 30 feet. Right out of the bay going east into 30 feet of water the first hit came and it never stopped . I had 3 doubles and 2 triples ,all of them cookie cutter 4 pounders except for the one that broke my 8 pound leader at first touch and another 8 pounder that I caught later. In the middle of what definitely was the best brown trout fishing trip I ever had, a big laker hit the lure on the down rigger and he gave as good of a fight as the eight pound brown. When they hit high up in the water they give a very good fight. Glen do you remember the brown trout lure we used while pre-fishing the Pro-Am at Sodus Point? We bought every last one in the tackle store so nobody could get a hold of them. That one did all the damage, and as the paint got ripped off the lures, it only got better. I will have to buy a few more of those. It was very amazing that my boat was the only one on the lake, one would think that everybody would be out for one last hurray All in all a fantastic day on the lake. Cornelis. ====================
  10. I used to hunt wild boar with my Weimeraner. They are very patient and disciplined, while (at least mine)being very sweet and gentle with the kids. As for retrieving a bird or rabbit, there are much better choices out there. Cornelis.
  11. This was your small boat I presume? I'm glad to hear that you came through it safe. Cornelis.
  12. Thanks for a great picture. I will be in Hubbardston in a couple of weeks and we are thinking of doing Quabbin, when do they close it?
  13. This may or may not help you,but it shows how little things can really make a difference. My 9.5 kicker caused me a lot of trouble this summer. It turned out to be a broken bolt on the head that slightly warped the head and caused the head gasket to blow. This was easily figured out and repaired. I figured that I might as well service the entire thing and replaced the plugs, condensers and points. Back on the water it did run but very rough, irregular and it smoked. I checked the link and sync and cleaned the carburetor but that did not help,so the flywheel came off again and the points were readjusted. At this point I found out was the problem was. The screw on top of one of the point brackets that holds the connections from the condenser and the coil was loose and this caused the lower cylinder to get irregular and poor spark. As a result of this, it was hard to start the engine and it smoked like a fiend. While on the water it used a lot of gas because part of the time it ran on one cylinder. As the engine warmed up it smoked less but I did not quite figure out why that was, although I have my suspicions The moral of the story is: Where there is smoke, there is unburnt fuel. When there is no ignition in one of the cylinders the fuel will come out as smoke. As the other cylinders warm up, they will burn better and the overall amount of smoke will be way less. In my case a simple tightening up a screw solved the problem, maybe your problem is of similar nature. Cornelis.
  14. Why do you think that this exemption is called the Haliburton Loophole??
  15. I hope that you all remember what General Electric did to the Hudson Valley. They got great tax breaks to move in then they poisoned the valley and the river with cancerous chemicals. People in the valley have a lot more cancer than most other people in the country and the entire river needs to be dragged to remove the poisons. After thirty years of poisoning the valley, General Electric moved out and abandoned the area.It was only through extended court action that they started paying up for some of their actions. I see no reason why the gas drilling companies would be any different. They will do whatever they can get away with.
  16. Congrats on all the great fishing. It is very good news that the halibut is coming back. About 15 years ago the state of Maine tried to reintroduce them.It looks like they succeeded.
  17. I have a few Penn Black Sabre wire rods with carboloid guides and tip. It does a very nice job for me. I don't have to deal with the extra weight and lack of balance that seems to a part of the roller rods. Maybe if Glen lets me touch his Dipsy Diver rods I will change my mind.
  18. Bernoulli's principle can also be derived directly from Newton's 2nd law. "If a volume of air or fluid is flowing horizontally from a region of high pressure to a region of low pressure, then there is more pressure behind than in front. This gives a net force on the volume, accelerating it along the streamline". This is probably the principle that allows these Japanese mills to be more efficient By creating a greater low pressure area behind the wings than there normally would be, we increase the flow of air going to the wings, thereby increasing their speed. Today's wind mills mostly operate by using a maximum speed which is limited and often less than the wind potential available. It seems that this other system can run at a much higher RPM and therefor be more productive.
  19. In that case there is a very serious discrepancy between Bernouilli's principles (which keep airplanes in the air) and the Betz law.............
  20. You just pointed out the big difference. In Cape Cod it is legal to gaff fish.
  21. If you like that sort of attractors, you should look into umbrella rigs which are very popular in Cape Cod and used for stripers and blue fish. The umbrella rigs look like a small school of fish with a wounded one lagging behind. There is a tuna rig that has the attractors in a horizontal V shape again with one seemingly wounded fish behind the center attractor. In salt water these lures work great and as far as I can see they should do well in fresh water.
  22. Most people in Brighton know your company for all the slurry sealing you do on our local roads and on the express ways. I was just trying to be funny. I am glad that some NY companies are making some money of the gas bonanza before drilling has even started around our own state.
  23. Do you mean to say that you slurry sealed them and then called it "repair"?
  24. Could it be that this new development had something to do with scrapping many current wind energy projects? http://www.triplepundit.com/2011/09/wind-lens/ Not only does this system have the potential of producing up to three times as much energy as the conventional wind mills, it also can be build on floating bases. This would make it possible to have windmills on Lake Ontario at 15 or 20 miles off shore. Maybe this new development is on the horizon (maybe behind the horizon) for Lake Ontario. If it is,it may be a source for jobs and energy without the nasty side effects. Heck, you would have to go to the 500 foot line to be able to see them.
  25. What Glen says usually works. I have had some problems with the connections and the check valves on the fuel lines. The problem was that air would come into the system from one engine connection and it would cause the other engine to run very rough or stall. that is why I prefer a system with shut off valves so that there does not have to be a constant open connection between the 2 engines. Another possibility is a 2 or 3 way valve with a shut off valve that only allows one connection at a time to be open. Cornelis.
