When you get into this expensive stuff you will find that, specially transducers come in many levels of sensitivity. Some transducers are great for bottom view at 1500 feet down and others are really good at 15 feet. Sensitivity of the transducers is probably the most important quality in a fish finder. Having a fish finder and a gps on the same screen is a matter of preference. I just need to keep on reminding myself that a fish finder does not catch fish,it just helps a bit .

I am in the process of choosing which fish finder to install on my new to me Islander and after having seen on the Spoonfed what the Furuno 582 is capable of there seem to be only 2 choices.Either Furuno or Sitex. My choices are narrowed down to the Furuno 610/620 or the Sitex SVS 650. There's plenty of people on this board with the Furuno 610/620 ,but the Sitex SVS 650 claims to have the same specs as the Furuno, with a bigger screen (like the 582), it also claims to be a lot more user friendly and it is about three hundred dollars cheaper. Does anybody have any experience or heard of opinions with the SVS 650? If so,please give your opinion. Thanks,Cornelis.

You can get the tool online for under $43 including shipping (Ebay). I just bought it and used it today for my Islander with mercruiser. If you have any suspicion about the quality of the alignment,take it right back to the shop and have them do it right in front of you and take pictures while they do it. If the alignment is correct ,the tool should just slide in without any force. If it was a lousy job you will very soon find yourself buying a new drive shaft and the female part in the engine.$$$$$. Make sure it was done right.

We had a great time fishing the derby. It was beautiful weather and although the fishing could have been better,the family atmosphere that surrounds this little derby makes it a truly joyous event. It was a bit sad to see the Spoonfed in her moorings and not on the water fishing. I hope you will be ably to rejoin the salmon chasing crowds soon. Give us a heads up on how you're doing. Cornelis

Another thing is fuel supply. If it does fine on the low end,but sputters as you go up,it may well be that your fuel supply is lacking. There may be an air leak in the fuel supply hoses somewhere. The fuel pump creates a vacuum that sucks the fuel to the carbs, but if there is any place where air gets into your lines (pin holes) it will happily suck that air instead. Fuel hoses with a ball pump are infamous for that sort of trouble. You may have a clogged filter on the pickup in your tank or pump. To check this sort of thing you can take any old bottle ,put some fuel in there and connect it to a hose that goes directly to the carb. Hold the bottle well above the engine and start her up. If she does well,you know that your carb is fine. Next, connect the hose to the fuel pump and hold the bottle well below the pump. Start her up again if she does fine again you know that your problem is farther back.If it does not ,you may have a dirty fuel filter in your pump or the pump itself has a bad diafragm, or whoever repaired the carbs did open the fuel pump and did not put everything back in the right order That way by trial and deduction you should be able to pinpoint your problem. If on the other hand,she smokes like a fiend,you have too much fuel,which means that the float was either not seated properly,or that there is a hole in the float which causes it to fill up with fuel and sink,there by causing the engine to flood,but that should happen both at high and low rpm. One more thing.Try to run it without the engine cover and see if it runs better, if it does your air supply is problematic and this may be caused by exhaust gas leaking out and replacing the air under the cowling. Last thing for now,make sure that your choke (electric?) is not stuck in closed position. It is always a very good idea to buy an ORIGINAL factory manual of your engine. Don't waste your money on a Seloc or some other inferior manual. If none of this works for you,you may have to replace your points, but for now ,just pull both plugs and see if they are both the same color. If one is very clean,it may be time for another head gasket Good luck.

What often happens with those old needles is that they vibrate loose ,so do not only adjust the needle but also make sure that it is tight in the seating or it will just happen again.

There always were a bunch of them at the Russel power station pond,I don't know if they are still there now that there is no longer any warm water.

I think you have just lost all the potential help you might have had in recovering your stolen goods. I sure hope that you have fewer spelling mistakes in the articles that you write in books.....

I have the same problem with the "Superman" which is my favorite brown trout lure. After 5 fish it becomes a fine silver laker lure. I still use them because Michelle at Captains Cove discontinued selling Stingers at her shop and she sold me a bunch of them for cheap.

Are there any special markings on the gear that may help us recognize it?

I have 41 inches of brand new 1 1/2 inch diameter fuel filler hose left over from replacing the hose on my Islander Normal price is $15 per foot. My 3 foot 5 inches goes for $30. This would be a good length for 16 and 18 foot boats with metal fuel tanks If you have the 1980s fuel lines you may want to consider ethanol resistant hose like the one that I am selling. Cornelis.

Like Don said. SMC metal on the corner of Mount Read and Buffalo road in Rochester reopened and they have a bin of left over pieces of aluminum ( 3/4 inch by 4) and other sizes close to that. You can find your mounting plate in that bin for real cheap compared to anything else on the market. Cornelis

You replacing your rotten transom,probably did not add a whole lot of weight to the boat,but it certainly changed the angle (trim) of your outboard quite a bit. You should try to bring the trim up or down a bit and see if the problem persists.

I go there almost every year! Nickerson State park is the best ,the cheapest and the most Boat friendly place to camp,but you must order your spot now. It has several ponds where you can canoe or swim or fish if the sea is too rough.It has easy access to both the Ocean and the bay.No extra charge for boats,the showers are free,the camping spots are large and it has a camping store with reasonable prices.Your overall expense will be about a third of what any other camping will cost and it is way better! As for fishing, if the bay is too rough,you can go to the ocean or the other way around. In August you will not do too well on the stripers,but the blue fish is very good and so is the bonito and if you have a good boat you can run up Stellwagen bank for tuna or cod! One year we jumped over to the bank and got stuck in a huge pot of whales feeding all around us. Go and enjoy!

Dump a can of a stabilizer called "Seafoam" in it, that will seriously extend the fuel life time expectancy.Seafoam will create a one molecule thick layer of insulating material that prevents the gas from reacting to the outside air. Also it is important to either have the tank full or empty, anything in between will leave room for condensation of water into the bottom of your tank and reacting to the ethanol. If you intend to pump the gas out,make sure everything is grounded out and of equal electric charge. Static electricity is enough to create a spark and disaster. Heck I would not come near this process with an electric pump.

Scardinius erythrophthalmus That's the Latin name. Sorry but I don't know what it is called in English. It is a member of the carp family. I used to catch them in Holland when I was a kid.

I had the same problem and used aluminum on the inside glued on with 3M 5200 and kept in place by the glue and the wood transom. If you do any repairs like that, it is an opportunity to add a heavy piece of wood on the outside. You can screw your transducer onto the wood instead of drilling a new hole into the hull.
