After years of “next time maybe “ I made it to a meeting. I’m glad I did and will make some more. Definitely worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United- 1 reply

I just watched an episode called “Canadian horror “. Jeremy wade was in Canada searching for a monster that had attacked swimmers. As usual. Ends up musky fishing. Puts in a hard week and after 13,000 casts he gets one on a jig/minnow/6lb test combo. Worth watching. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

My experience was different. I had a nearly new 88 tracker 17’ boat with a 70 merc on it. It had a hydrofoil on it when I bought it. I took it on and off a lot to see what it did. I never saw any difference either way. I ended up leaving it on because it made it easier climbing in after a swim. But every boat is different so if works on yours good deal. I have bought two new boats there. They deal pretty good. If my current boat wasn’t so mint I would grab that 1875 bass. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

So add this lake to old man’s “skunk tour”. I don’t know what was worse, the heat or the stench of the massive carp die off. Saw nothing, caught nothing. Nice boat wash though. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

seeking rod/ reel recommendations
old man replied to wallysackett's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I have a bunch of musky rods including some St. Croix jobs. My favorite is a 7’6” bass pro Pete Maina rod. Caught tons of fish on it including two over 50”. It was around $110.00 and I’ve had it 10 years. Maina not with them anymore. Now they sell “Musky angler”,not sure if it’s the same rod. They sell a longer two piece rod that will break at a bad time. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

Goose bay is always worth a shot for pike. Mostly the deeper part right as you come in. Fishing from Dingman point to goose bay should put plenty of pike in your boat. Pike fishing around the castle and surrounding area can be good now with most of the summer traffic out. I find I can catch all the 5 pound pike I can stand by staying in the bays but bigger ones seem to want access to deeper water. Fishing the weed edges in the river will get you fewer but bigger pike. There are lots of largemouth in the same waters the pike use. Lake of the isles is all about largemouth. I don’t fish smallmouth much but when I do I fish in 20 to 30 fow with live bait. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I fished here all week. The only slow day was Tuesday. I caught a ton of pike and a fair number of lmb casting near shore in weeds. Real near shore, like within a cast. Early and late was the best. During the day I picked off a few pike trolling crankbaits over 20-30 fow. I fished from round island to cedar point. those two baits caught all the casting fish. That shoreline is the first bay past cedar point heading to clayton. I caught fish in front of that for sale sign a lot. About 5 feet from shore. Planning a trip to waneta
old man replied to fisherman21's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Waneta is a good choice for your first one. The lake is small enough no matter what you offer muskies will see it. I would go in September. 65 lb braid will handle any fish there. Any good leader will work but avoid the cheap eagle claw type stuff;the snap will fail and break your heart. Baits are up to you. When they're hungry anything works, when they have lockjaw you get skunked. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
My dad made me take a "piloting, seamanship and small boat handling" course before he let me use his boat. It was like 13 weeks and pretty hard. That was 50 years ago. Last year i took the state course on line for the heck of it. It's free if you don't need the certificate. Trouble is no matter how well you know the rules it seems no one else does. I avoid trouble by assuming everyone else is drunk,on the phone, and out for the first time. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

i got this in the mail today. I've already gotten a 90 and 60 day notice. I estimate muskies inc spends 13% of my dues reminding me to renew. Such a waste, don't we all have e-mail? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
