Wilson June 4
ReelPower replied to Albemarle16's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Wow hard to find 485 out of Wilson! You run east? Thanks for your reports these last few days. -
They rock out with lots of live misic in the summertime. Always enjoy our trips there.

Boat insurance without recent survey
ReelPower replied to Custom Deluxe's topic in Open Lake Discussion
If you are buying multiple lines from the same carrier you may escape the survey issue and saves bit. My State Farm policies don't require a survey it's an "agreed value" policy which is what you want for an old boat. -
How good are the Okuma GLT rods?
ReelPower replied to brucehookedup's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The GLT's are not durable...heavy action, short and powerful ugly sticks are a signature charter rod IMO. -
I run a 9.9 Mercury Bigfoot 20" shaft off the swim platform of my 89 Trophy 2160. Actual shaft length is 21.5" on those. Gear case sits just below or at the hull depth due to the deep v. It also sits back a bit off the platform which must help. No major cavitation issues in seas less than 4'. Above that can be a little problematic but that is usually the limit for trolling fish ability on my little rig. When I replace it with a power tilt model I will go with a 25" if one is available, but 20" has been completely workable on my set up. Just make sure that gear case sits below the hull when in use and don't skimp on the kicker mount, they get beat in rough water.

The guys at Michigan Motorz are very reputable, I purchased a new 350 block from they and they installed it too. Great customer satisfaction from what I know. Your looking at about 4k when all is said and done IMO unless you have good mechanical skills and the right equipment.

Many captains and rec boats use Amish Outfitters 500 lb. spectra. Indestructible and relatively smooth. I would never go back to Dacron. Use a snubber with the spectra, also sold by Amish Outfitters, UV resistant nearly indestructible. Some old school Erie walleye guys used huge lengths of weed wacker line. Stretchy and smooth. From what I hear it blows up plastic planer reels. Metal is the way to go anyway, see Cisco Fishing Products line up. Yes spendy but you will destroy other brands with time. I use cheap Home Depot mini carabiners attached to all my planer releases. Adds weight, less drag and easier to use. I highly recommend the purchase. They zip down the line.

For that size boat a 15 hp is a good call. Put on an Adventure Marine bracket.

If the screen is blank after 30 minutes an no action it's time to pack up and change your depth range. Folks in that area tend to troll north to cover the depth ranges and because the current can rip e/w.

Atlantics are in the Salmo (trout) family and have been known to cross with their close relatives the brown trout: ^ Youngson, A. F., Webb, J. H., Thompson, C. E., and Knox, D. 1993.
