2013 Sodus Bay Healing Waters Salmon Slam - August 3rd

Got out yesterday from 330pm -630pm. Water was COLD 38-40 nothing higher. I headed West and fished from the Chute down to "7 Sisters" and back without a single hit. I worked muddy, green, and clear water from 8'-30' of water. I ran 6 lines off the boards with sticks and 2 riggers of the corners loaded with spoons. One side was Chartrouse, Orange, all Bright colors, the other side was Black/Silver, Blue/White, Goby patterns. Boat ran great and felt good to be out on the water regardless of the SKUNK. but good to get it out of the system earlier than later.

For the price of a spool of new line I always respool every year. The way I look at it is, if you take a chance with old line and loose one setup it will cost anywhere from $8-$30 to replace the setup depending on what you are running. The 8-15 bucks for new line is assurance and peace of mind

I feel your pain. I took a rapala hook in the finger same as you. It went straight in to the bone. No getting it out alone. Oswego ER and i get the one Dr who has never seen a fish hook before. Shots of novicane a knife and some pliers did the trick. Sore for a week....here's to a quick recovery -
Exactly as Tim said 10-15' back and 2' down. That is what is great about HO's in the spring is most of the time you can see them hit the fly. We have had them hit 5' form the boat on the surface while bringing in the line.

I run 4 riggers all on tracks with 3" swivel bases. I do use the backing plates under the tracks and have never had a problem. 15 lb torpedoes going on 7 years no stress cracks

i use Michigan Sea Grant. the link is below http://www.coastwatch.msu.edu/twoontarios.html It is good for spring brown trout surface temp readings example: and for salmon you want to see where the temps are closer together and that is usualy where the Thermocline is setup. example:

I have one that I keep all my spoons in. It works good. I have all my spoons seperated by color and size and it make it very easy to see what I am looking for and no more tangled hooks

You can catch fish with just using your fish finder, but your catch ratio will at least double using a speed/temp. I started with just using my Fish Finder looking for bait and fish and did ok, but now I will run to an area drop my probe and if I do not see the water temp I am looking for I dont set up and keep going looking for the right temp. Most of the time you will get fish that did not show up on you FF by just fishing the correct Temp and going the correct downspeed. What you will notice for example is say heading North you will need to go 3.2 SOG on your GPS to put decent action in your lures and catch fish and for the same depth heading South you may only need to go 1.8 SOG for tha same action. This is all caused by the currents below. In my opinion a decent Fish Finder with a Speed/Temp probe is the most deadly cobination you can have.

Looking for any advise on marathon key fishing guide
bout time replied to lundman's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I would contact Kevin form Kelly's Green Sportfishing. Ive gone a couple times with him and he is very good. Everything from inshore, wreck, sea fishing. If he isnt available he should be able to hook you up with someone else. Marathon Kelly's Green Sportfishing Capt. Kevin Goodwin 305-289-1667 -

Like Jolly sad you want colder water where it meets the bottom. Typically target 47 and below. We usually run Spin N Glows or straight spoons. One trick is lower your rigger until it hit bottom the raise it 5 feet. I would have to agree that Gambler is probably one of the best in well Laker department. Hopefully he will shed some light as well

Okuma Convector size for downrigger rod
bout time replied to Rippin'Line's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Another trick is to spool up with 20lb and tie on about 100-150 ft of 30. That last section of 30 is what's in the water the most and will not collect fleas. [ Post made via Android ] -
