Nice going and interesting report. I think you are a good example of something that I've said repeatedly on here being the dinosaur that I am. There is a very high reliance on fancy electronics, the best rods and reels, temp sensing devices, autopilots and all the other paraphenalia that goes with it, but at the end of the day the stuff is helpful but not as totally necessary as folks may believe or assume. You can still catch nice fish without all the expensive fancy stuff when either forced to improvise or going "old school".

Maybe use a garden hose pointed from the rear of the impeller to test?(someone else holding it)

I agree with fisherdude's concern. Some folks may not realize it but there is a huge market in California and other states already with people assembling guns from parts that can be bought over the Internet. apparently there are gunsmiths involved as well as other people that have just watched videos on the Internet and they are making their own guns that are much harder to trace and they are being bought by gangs and cartels for big bucks.

I know it depends on a bunch of different factors but my "rule of thumb" on the Deeper diver at least the 124 mm (largest) sometimes referred to as #5 I figure2 to 1 at normal speed e.g 2.2 mph. I've hit bottom at 155 ft with 300 ft of wire out (30 lb 7 strand)

Nice going Tom. Until very recently I have thought the flea infestation was something the was totally warm water temp related and with us for the duration until Fall but after the intense concentration of fishook fleas noted recently, and now folks now reporting light to none out there I'm wondering if the lake flip and cold water being pushed inshore either breaks up the concentrations or maybe kills them off somehow, or whether it somehow changes their reproduction cycle somehow. Really interesting. Thanks for the report.

i think it might pay to get a little perspective here. First of all the original post was calling attention to a young kids as yet unexplained death. As with nearly any TV program the Wicked Tuna show has scripted parts and when paying close attention you can often see and hear the folks reading from cue cards. Does that mean the show isnt any good or that it is "phony" in its entirety? No. After talking with Dave Marciano personally I realized that there is very little difference in his personality in real life than that projected in the show. He is a very knowledgeable, experienced fisherman who looks at his involvement in the show as a something to augment his main income as a fisherman. Is he or the others polished professional actors? No. Does the scripting affect the credibility of those fishermen appearing on the show? I don't think so. Contrast the show with some of the other reality shows like the Kardashian crap and it becomes clear that there is at least some social redeeming value to it. I'm always looking for the details on how they rig their baits and equipment and little "nuances" in what they are doing regarding fishing and ignore the drama stuff which may appear interesting to folks only generally interested in fishing itself. The character Tyler McLaughlin presented on the show could be perceived a s a real pain but if you notice the kid catches some pretty big tuna...not an accident..... he knows how to fish....Is he 'likeable"? I'll leave that up to the viewer. No sense getting into a war over this stuff.... just a TV program.....
