Thankful to hear everyone is ok and all made it in safe! We never know what will happen with every trip on the water. Sounds like you were prepared and handled everyone's worst fear on the water the best way possible. I hope you and your family can get past this and get back on the water one day. Best wishes to you! What is the best net for landing Salmon
billbobthorpe replied to Dad with Twin boys's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I bought a Beckman last year and I love it. I have the rubberized net with the longer expanding handle as well. The reach is is great! It can be a handful on a smaller boat but is well worth it for the reach for your longer leaders. Sent from my SM-G973U using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
He was asked and hinted about it at his press conference the other day. It wasn't definite at the time but was a possibility. He mentioned the date of May 1st so naturally they had to make it later. That's why the governors made the announcement before Trump has his call with them this afternoon. Trump is supposed to lay out his start up plan at his press conference today. This is all political now. They know Trump wants to open the country up starting May 1st. This is about the governor's making the decision and not letting Trump or the federal government make the decision. Trump and the government bent over backwards to help NY and the hardest hit cities and states and this is the thanks he gets. At this point I feel it needs to be a personal decision. If you don't feel safe or for health issues want to stay home by all means stay home. But the rest of us want to get back to our lives and work. We are over the worst it seems now. Couple more weeks I think we should start to get back to a new normal. I don't want to offend anyone on here but this keeping us out of state folks away to stop the spread is fine as long as it goes both ways. Here in PA where I live we have lots of essential jobs in warehouses and distribution centers. In the last month we have had hundreds of people from NY take jobs here and start living here. Like I said it works both ways. I have stayed home to do my part to prevent the spread. But in a couple more weeks or so I'll be heading up to do some fishing and support the local businesses that need our help now more than ever. It's not about catching fish. It's about coming up and spending time with friends that have become family and supporting the small businesses as I've done for over 25 years. I don't want to get anyone sick or get sick myself but if we aren't sick we should start getting back to work and living our lives soon. Sent from my SM-G973U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I don't want anyone to get sick or god forbid loose their life from this virus. But the reality is most people will get it eventually. And like other viruses people will die from it. I wasn't in favor of shutting things down but it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I'm sure it's hit some people hard financially I really feel for those folks. It seems the shut down has had an effect on the spread of this thing. Now it seems like we are on the down hill side of this virus. My feeling now is its time to start getting back to some kind of normal. We all know it's not going to be the same as it was. Some things will change forever because of this. Will more people get sick? Yes. But that happens every year from the flu. Until their is a vaccine we will all get this like the flu. Most of us will be down for a week or so and then recover. If people are scared to get it or has a health issue that makes them vulnerable to getting critically sick then you should stay home and avoid exposure. Those folks can take advantage of the programs to get through this financially. But for the rest of us I think it's time to get back to work and back to living our lives. We could keep things shut down longer but how long is longer? A couple more weeks? Maybe another month or two? Or longer? My point is the "experts" say without a vaccine it could go on for a year or two with spikes and lulls until we all eventually get it. In my humble opinion I think we've done what we can to limit the initial spread of this virus. We are past the peak and it's time to get back to our lives. Happy Easter to everyone and your families. Tying short cores on mono reals
billbobthorpe replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The Kings can't resist them in the spring! I just take a little mono off enough for 2 or 3 colors. I run them off the boards as usual. Sent from my SM-G973U using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
FISHING EXPO THIS WEEKEND IN NIAGRA FALLS
billbobthorpe replied to john1947's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The Greater Niagara Outdoor Show is a really good show for trolling and fishing lake Ontario and Erie and their tributaries. Many of us that love trolling the lakes have everything we need to do it. It is great to get out and see some of the new products and talk to people who love what we do as much as us. All the vendors and manufacturers reps are very helpful and willing to share their knowledge to make us better fishermen. The seminars are nice and informative. I always seem to pick up a trick or new technique with everyone I attend. I attended the salmon school on Saturday which is a wealth of information for trolling. The captains Andy, Pete and Matt do a great job explaining and showing us the techniques and tackle that works best for them. They also teach the best way to find the fish we are targeting mostly salmon and trout in many different lake conditions. And they make themselves available for questions during the salmon school and throughout the entire weekend. All in all it's a nice show and it gives us a nice weekend in the middle of winter to talk and think about fishing. Sent from my SM-G973U using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I bought my Fish Hawk 2 years ago right when the depth feature was added. I had the same dilemma and went with the X4. It's a great unit and have not had a bit of trouble with it. I do however wish I spent the extra $150 for the X4D. I think it would make it easier to get down in the sweet spot sooner is all. Sent from my SM-G973U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Been fishing here in fair haven all week. Having good success in 100-150 fow. Best bite is in the morning and evening. Mid day the fish do scatter. But been finding bait balls in that 100-150 all day. Ventured out to 400 plus a couple days. Didn't mark much but did get a few out there. Have caught on meat rigs spoon and flies. Meat and spoons been best for me. Most fish have been in the teens but some big ones are there too. My partner boat got a 24 pounder this afternoon in 125 fow. Good luck. Fished alot along the Jersey shore but not in that area. Take a ride down to the cape may inlet. On the north side you can access the jetty through the wildlife refuge. I have fished alot around that inlet and have done well. Bluefish, flounder, false albacore and other fish. You can fish anywhere along the rock jetty. The best fishing is usually 1 hour before the high tide to an hour after. But fish really like that inlet and you can usually catch all day. Be careful though the rocks can get slippery.

Great job on boating all 5!! Like p3434 said I thought a triple was crazy. I had one in the spring and can't imagine keeping them apart and netting all 5. That's a day of a lifetime. Congratulations[emoji106][emoji106] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
