That's what it's all about, helping others enjoy the outdoors and the experience. The only "stupid question" is the one that is never asked. Best of luck to you out there.

Definitely add divers, some days that's all that fire. I use the Eagle Claw 10' diver rods but there are many great rods same with reels which I have run the Cabelas Depthmasters with great results. I run 1000' of wire straight on the reel, no backing. To attach to a swivel double the wire on the end and tie an over hand knot making a loop, push the loop thru the swivel eye and feed the loop over the bottom of the swivel and pull tight, trim the tag end and fish. Just be careful the wire doesn't kink, you won't be sorry you added to your spread I'm sure.

Firechief48 replied to Kevin J Legg's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Wow you have some vintage stuff there. Looking at them brings back memories of being young and picking something out of my dads tackle box. -

By Salmon River ramp I'm guessing you mean Port Ontario? Not a big fan of that ramp myself. With a 16' boat you could go to Pine Grove which also is on the Salmon River not far away. I prefer Mexico which is farther towards Oswego, lots of parking and plenty of dock space but still a quick run to the big river if you want.

Now I'm confused???
-
I had one and went back to an EZ Steer. Easier using the steering wheel in my opinion.

I've never had problems with 44's. I myself haven't used the Otters but those I know that do use the double keel and have no problems pulling coppers.
-
I use the TX-44 inlines most of the time but have used bigger boards. Did you have the Otters with double keel?

FarmerChris copper and dipsy divers are used to get your lure down to where the fish are and at the same time get back away from the boat. Put the coppers on boards and now you're away from the back and on the sides, making a bigger, wider spread with the theory being the fish are boat/cable shy. Some days the only strikes come on these lines. Depth of both depend on how much line is out, speed and current. Just some more tools in the tool box. As far as braid or wire, I run both but mostly wire.

I've run dipseys at all settings and run coppers off boards and down the chute and never tangled. These guys are right, let them out slow and wide turns. Patience pays off in these situations.

Aluminum is touchy and different than steel but again with a Mig once you get the touch it welds quick and nice.

Charter/Guide Suggestions for Summer Salmon Trip
Firechief48 replied to BenFishin's topic in Open Lake Discussion
There's a lot of great, reputable charters within easy driving distance of you. If you're looking strictly for kings you want to be around end of August. Don't wait to long to book though as these guys book up quick that time of year. -
You can weld conduit easy enough. Mig is the easiest but old fashioned arc works also especially Sch40 due to the thickness. Biggest thing is like mentioned you want to ventilate good and don't breath the fumes. Also after you weld you want to paint over weld with cold galvanize or the welds will rust in no time. I worked at a fence company years back and made a few rocket launchers for boats this way.

You're right it's easy enough to remedy and doesn't happen every time.
-
I run The 44's, 300 copper one side 400 the other with no problems. Tile man is right about the diving though.
-
The Cut Plug and Green Glow Black Ladder Back. They worked 30+ years ago and still work for late season kings. I will also stack a #3 or run one off a dipsey now and then when I'm on kings.
