So the idea is to get the Sampos and then add your own snap directly to them? I've been using Sampo coastlocks, but I dont like how they are so narrow on the spoon side.

Yeah he is our early warning system for salmon. As soon as he hear the rod click more than 3 times, he knows a fish is on and its not just a wave pulling on the inline board. He gets out of his boat seat and barks on the transom until we get the fish in.

The one advantage of the new bluetooth unit is being able to take snapshots of your actual speed probe and surface speed as well as temperature when a fish hits. Helps to add data to log books if you really want to dial in setups for certain times of the year. The blue screen x4d doesnt have surface speed. The new red screen version x4d does. If you really want surface speed, buy just the new red display unit and sell your blue display.

I got the same kind from amazon except round ones. I trilled a hole in my triple tree rod holders and mounted them on the side. Allows me to still throw a net in the top. Since they are LED, they draw hardly any current. Wired them right up to my small courtesy lights so I can switch them on with the dash switch. I put them in with some lock washers but left them just loose enough that I can still tilt them if I need to - for instance if Im cleaning fish on the boat late at night.

I usually burn $130 a week taking an average of 2 fishing trips and 1 river cruise. During our 9 day tournament last July, I went through $700 in gas in one week. Total last year summer was 900 miles on the boat. At 2 mpg it works out to be 450 gallons of gas (wish I could have bought a tanker of gas when it was at $1.99 this winter). At $4.80 average for gas at the marina it works out to be $2160 + tips. Luckily out of Milwaukee, the farthest we travel to fish is 15 miles and most trips are only 4 miles away before we set up. Yeah they dont run on hope and dreams. I just take family and friends out and my gas bill is usually around $2000 to 2500 each summer. $2k for slip fee for Lake Michigan. Last years gear switchover and electronics upgrade was another $3k. At $20 a head, I'd just need to take 350 people fishing to break even for last year

According to the rules, $20 is still illegal. If you in exchange for fishing on the big lake, then its illegal. Granted mostly everyone does it, but you could still get a fine for it. It still kind of a grey area when it comes to buddies but if there is anything that implies that there is money be exchanged for boat time, then you can be slapped with a $10k fine. Had a buddy in Milwaukee that talked his way out of the ticket - the pen was almost to the final signature on the ticket before he talked him out of it. The reason for the ticket - someone handed him $20 at the gas dock to cover gas. We also had an incident were an undercover person came around with a kid on Fathers day one year. They went boat to boat offering $50 to quick take him and his son out for fathers day - everyone who said yes, got the ticket. Feel free to do what you want, but just be discreet as you can about any money and dont take money from strangers even if they are with a buddy of yours.
