Fishing Wednesday off Wilson trolled out to 360 FOW and had smooth water entire way. Started in at 220 after finally getting good down temp. Trolled for about 3 hours with same condition and then slight wind arose out of the East. Picked up and decided to run to Power plant and finish the day trolling west with winds at the stern. As I was motoring east saw what appeared to me a scum lone about 700 hundred yards in front of me. Slowed down to check for marks but as I got closer it was not a scum line but a wide path of rippling water about 3 to 400 yards wide. I could not see it's length as it extended beyond my field of vision. As I passed thru and came out the other side the wind instantly started blowing from the west. Within minutes the sea condition changed to 2 to 3 ft seas and began to see breakers starting. Decided to turn South and head toward shallower water to calmer water but winds continued to pick up in intensity. I felt they were easily 20 + MPH and increasing. Headed to piers and when I approached Trees were by now bending over. Entered harbor and was difficult steering at No Wake speed. Made it back to launch and winds continued to increase. Forecast that day said light and variable SSE. It was the quickest I have ever experienced on Ontario having fished on it since Mid 70's. Has anyone ever experienced such a condition. I can only imagine how rough it could have gotten further offshore. I typically keep an eye on the clouds on horizon to monitor any potential issues or changes that I could prepare for. No such indicator was present. as clouds high in sky weren't moving at all. This wind shear or whatever it was apparently was below the clouds and limited in width along shoreline. Crazy experience for sure. Anyone ever experienced the same. Did catch a bunch of steelhead, but not a single King out deep. I assume the Kings are in closer staging.

Had to switch days to fish, now heading up Wednesday. Winds will be more favorable. From those I have spoken to 120 to 160 in close has been good with riggers parkerked 60 to 115. Wire dipseys 1 1/2 out 170 t0 200 back. Hot spoons still Carbon 14 Mag and Moonshine Appleseed. I will be launching out of Wilson and Trolling East towards Olcott. My boat is a Thompson 240 Hardtop. White/Blue. If you see me out their call me on channel 68.Very good fishing out deep starting in 250 and tolling North. Riggers slightly higher but if you find temp a lot of 2 year old Kings out deep along with steelhead. Meat also working. Have a Great day. Fishing should be very good . Thursday weather not looking good as of now. -

Fished with a Buddy from Ohio on Monday and Tuesday after the derby. Went 5 for 8 and 3 for 5 those 2 days. Nothing bigger than 10 lbs. Fished out of Wison. Fair amount of boats out on Monday, but only a few on Tues.Seen a few nets busy, mostly Coho's. Did not mark a lot of fish or bait so kept lines higher. Kings and 1 Atlantic all came at 27 and 31 ft down over 120 to 185 FOW. We did have 1 screamer hit at 60 down but never got that fish. That was the only fish that hit deeper that 31. Most fish came on Blue Dolphin. Chatter was fish were stacked up on Canadian side. the East winds several days before I'm sure impacted the fishing. A couple of weeks to settle down should be a bonanza out their, if not, like the post about so few Browns entered, it will be alarming.

Anyone fishing the Bar?
freebird18 replied to Apparition's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Weather looks to be very good for the weekend. I have been monitoring the Web Cam daily for the past two weeks. I have seen only a few boats on the Bar. Most days did not see a one except for an occasional sale boat. Last 2 times out of Wilson caught fish just East of Wilson trolling toward the Red Barn. Bite was very good from 120 to 150 FOW. Riggers were deep 115 and 95. Flasher /spoon combo took most ot fish. Shortened leader behind 11" flasher to 42 inches. Steelhead were crazy, also picked up a 15lb Atlantic. -
One question, where these thefts at Private Docks or where they at a Marina. I was about to Dry Dock my boat for the season at a Marina in Derby Ny but it was announced that there would be NO OVERNITE Security Staff. Very few boats dry docked this year. I'm sure this impacted a lot of boaters.I am asking because I am hopeful to fish Cayuga in 2025 and would be looking to slip the boat for most of the season. Thank you in advance of your response.

for sale : usa Trolling or Hard Water Rig???
freebird18 replied to Mattjc's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
That is an Old Thermocline rig. Spoons were placed every 15 ft from bottom and up to 5 spoons used. Mostly Suttons. Lead weight took it to depth or bottom. Seen a few in use in Seneca many years ago at the Old boat launch at Dresden. had an old friend who had several of these. They used to be on display at the Old G & R tackle shop in West Seneca NY. Ray and Gordy would appreciate seeing these. -
Where is everybody?

I check the the Web-Cam at Fort Niagara every day. Not just to see boats but mostly to check on Lake conditions as the marine forecasts are typically way off. Rarely see boats heading out. Typical for this year. Also know a lot of people who fish Ontario between The NB and Olcott. For this entire season most everyone has the same opinion. Not seeing many fish, It didn't help that the fish cleaning station was removed at Wilson as well. Have to say that this year was the poorest fishing on Ontario that I have witnessed in the last 20 years or so. I know of a lot of very good fisherman who shared the same opinion. In contrast, I am fortunate to live a few miles from Lake Erie and the walleye fishing has been the absolute best I have seen in years. I always take time to speak with boaters and most I have spoken tell me if there going to burn 4 plus bucks a gallon on gas, they may as well get something for it instead of washing lures. My personal opinion is that the state is Neglecting the Lake Ontario fishery. Just look back at all the fish caught this year with Lamprey's attached or showing signs of being attacked. Never seen that level of fish showing those sign's. Again, I attribute it to the neglecting of the state. Really sad to see the business's struggling along the entire shore line of lake O. Wait until 2024 when ALL boaters will be required by NY state to obtain certification to operate a small craft regardless of tears experience. That is going to kill Lake Ontario in my opinion. be interested to hear from those whose fish the Eastern end and hear your comments. -
Fished solo out of Wilson Friday. Not on LOC. Just went to have a day chasing Kings. Fished several known areas and depths. VERY FEW marks and only one pod od bait. Found good temps starting on 113 FOW about 70 down. Did not see another boat land any fish either. Fishing this time of year for quite a number of years now, this was undoubtedly the fewest fish I have seen at this time and location. Parking lot emptied fast and early so I assume the experience was shared. Possibly a very late run or the well is pretty much empty. Anyone one else have thoughts. Been shut out on Lake O in the past but lack of fish was stunning.

Slashbait, appreciate the info. I know it's been a disappointment to see Olcott fade from seen. Have found memories seeing boats lined up on the bridge to get in line to launch. Things certainly have changed. Hope the Fall run gets thing rolling. Heading up next week. If my past diary notes are accurate, they will be their on the bottom and inside 155 FOW. Never failed in 18 years mow and counting. Best to all those fishing in the Derby. Wish you all Tight Lines and Reels Screaming. -

Originally started on Lake O with a 15ft. Captain back then gave me some great advice which I still follow today. Launch out of Wilson and always refer to marine forecast, especially WIND Direction. Launch and head in the direction the wind will be coming from. That way your always heading to port in the event you need to get off the lake. Have always done well fishing within 5 miles of Wilson in either direction. Distance will always depend on forecast and wave height. Good luck, good fishing. -
Has anyone any know why Olcott fishing site has been not posting anything for weeks. THX.
