I know this is an old thread but for others that are curious there is something about hunting on the second most polluted body of water behind Chernobyl just might keep some sportsmen off, just sayin’.

I have been using this one for a couple years since I suddenly became gluten intolerant and GF fried fish Wasn’t even close to the real thing until now. You can use this with any type of flour. - Use your favorite beer batter recipe, even gluten- free if need be (I use Sportsman’s Warehouse GF beer batter for convenience), and substitute the beer with green, addictive carbonated crack (Mountain Dew). You will not regret it. -I believe the high sugar content in the soda causes it to caramelize as it’s frying and gives the fish coating a little extra texture. (Think extra cheese that ran onto the pizza pan and fried that everyone fights over after) You could probably substitute any soda but once I tried this I was pleased enough to not tamper with it. Please let me know what you all think and please feel free to toss some gluten free recipes up here! My scratch batter mix: 1 cup flour (or GF flour) -I use King Arthur’s Measure for Measure GF flour 1/2 cup corn meal 1/2- 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper -dump 1/3 of the mix into a zip lock bag with fish. Dredge & let sit in refrigerator or on the counter for at least a half hour still in the bag. - put remaining 2/3 dry flour mix in mixing bowl with enough Mountain Dew to make a thick pancake batter consistency. The batter should slowly drip off fish but not run off when dipped. - dip fish in batter and deep fry or pan fry on stove with just enough vegetable oil to cover fish. It should be golden brown within 3 minutes or turn up the heat. Fry on each side until golden brown. -Enjoy * Warning: You may never go back to beer batter after this *** New Update—- Ginger Ale also works awesome with this

Thanks guys, it seems the single cylinder is my issue with the smaller motors so I will definitely focus on finding an 8 or maybe a 9 hp if I can find a good deal close by.
-
I am looking at kicker motors for my 18’ sea ray cc and like the 4 stroke 6 hp in terms of reduced weight on the transom but am not impressed with the noise and vibration level of all the models I have researched. The 8 hp seems to have the best reputation from what I’ve heard. I am trying to stay below a $2,000 budget and not many used 8 hp’s around so thinking a new 6 hp is my only option. What models are you guys using for trolling?

Nice! Only sketch part about where I was is that there were whales breaching in the same bait schools so you didn’t know if a 7 ton whale was going to blow up in the center of the blitz or a school of stripers. A whale landed on top of a boat right in front of our beach house a couple of days before we got there. I took this from the back deck while drinking my coffee before heading out. I waited it out a while instead 😬

Wow it would be hard to not reactively set the hook when getting bit that close to the boat. -

Awesome, well done and glad to see your license is prominently displayed unlike myself who always seems to leave it in another tackle box wherever I am not. A trolling bag will get your speed down. I mount one 30” bag on each side up towards the bow to keep me straight on track and keeps them away from the lines.

We got a late start and didn’t get to the launch until 10:00. Water level is low but we’re still able to launch my 17.5’ sea ray without any problems. Lots of fish jumping in the estuary and just outside the mouth with a few boats flatlining with planer boards within 10’ of water. Started off in 15’ and marked quite a few right on bottom running j plugs and j13’s. Snagged up on a dipsey so put in neutral to reel everything up and spin around to free it and the rigger j plug gets smashed while barely moving and takes off. Line was wrapped around the cable and of course snaps off….no other hits in 3 hours while also moving out to 20’ and then 90’ without seeing many marks at all. Didn’t see any boats fishing deep, all were within 8-20 fow. No complaints, I got to spend a few hours on a calm Lake O doing what I love with the one I love most on a beautiful day.

has anyone fished Vancouver Canada?

I would try the North Shore forum, you would probably get better local info -
My wife and I will be celebrating our 15th anniversary and she has surprisingly asked me to take her salmon fishing Wednesday morning. That is amazing in itself but to actually get her on her first open water salmon would be amazing. I’m sure there are quite a few in tight in front of the SR but if there is a good silver bite out deeper I would prefer that if weather allows. I would really appreciate any intel anyone wanted to share.

Nice! Thank you. Just wondering, when you run your J plugs do you run them just off bottom or throughout the column?
