  1. like said above the caption of the vessel is the most important thing. we started salmon fishing on lake mi. started with a 16' deep v runabout with an old Evinrude 80 hp. fished it a few times for a couple of yrs. then we moved to fishing erie hard for a couple of yrs then bought an old 18' Cherokee that had been left under a tree in a field for yrs. then i got enough nerve to ask about it. i had to redo everything before using it. but i fished almost every weekend for the next 12 yrs. i still miss that old boat. but out 12 or 15 miles and it gets rough in a hurry i would feel just as safe in that 18 as i do in the 21' glass boat i use now. but i do feel more comfortable in my 21'
  2. will these work on the old mag 10's? i just bought a boat with long boom mag 10's on it. i would like to be able to adjust the booms. if they should work for me mark them sold. and i'll need them shipped. sending you a message.
  3. i just offered to buy them if the sale falls through.
  4. buddy if i hadnt just bought a 2000 mercury with controls for 1000.00 i would have bought your 2015 for 1500.00. thats a great buy for sure. i've even been thinking about making you an offer for yours and if you took it i would use my controls and sell my motor. if it doesnt sell in the next couple of days i may just send you that offer.
  5. yes if a fin on a pancake weight gets bent it wont run true. but i love them myself. but i only run 2 riggers 1 off each corner. then i bend the fin on the balls causing then to run out to each side. opens up the back for landing fish or running 1 down the chute., i run 12# pancake weights that i got off of ebay for under 100.00 for both of them. i only seen a set of 13# weights for 109.00 for the pair with free shipping.
  6. i had a 21' cobia glass boat and had a ray marine auto pilot that fits under the steering wheel. it did a great job even going into rough water. we never added a kicker as i was told without hyd steering it would burn the unit out running the auto pilot to steer the kicker without the big motor running. i just smashed this boat backing into the pole barn with the new top standing at rest for travel but needed removed to fit the door of the pole barn. anyway my oldest son said he would chip in and help me get a bigger boat. we got a 26' sylvan that has the auto pilot under the wheel. so I'm looking at stand alone units for my kicker motor. so far the best I've found for the money is the Garmin reactor 40 with GHC. i guess there is a way to hook into your GPS and not need the GHC saving 600.00 and letting you go to way points or tracks. but im not very good at electronics so I'd want the GHC on it. but that unit costs 2599.00 complete with remote for course changes and throttle control. i figure i save 300.00 on the throttle control so the auto pilot would really cost me 2299.00 because i plan on using a remote throttle control even if i cant come up with the auto pilot. the main thing I do is run with the wind or in the troughs for better boat control 90% of the time. now it I'm in fish and come out I will turn around and fish back through to see if they bite.
  7. good deal! i just thought it doesnt hure anything to ask.
  8. have you clicked on boats at the almost top of the screen. there is a couple you might be interested in. i found a nice 89 sylvan 26' boat last week and picked it up in erie pa sat.
  9. i'm not 100% sure but looks like rubber band release. hook it to the rigger ball then half hitch a rubber band to your line then place the rubber band in the end of release. just my thoughts.
  10. i found a couple of nice thompson 24' hardtops on fb marketplace. you might check it out.
  11. he didn't say he was going to pay for the parts. he said he would pay for shipping. he wants old broken units that he can get for free and use parts to fix his unite. the op can correct me if i'm wrong.
  12. YES! i dont think he has been back to this thread since i first posted on it. i called him and he made the sale by phone. my oldest son and i went up sat and bought the boat and towed it back home.
  13. thanks Paul, the boat seems to be as described. we towed her home yesterday. had a flat and was down 3 1/2 hrs. the spare was junk and the wheel wouldn't work. unhooked the boat and went and bought 2 new tires then back on the road.
  14. there wasn't anything said about planer boards and i didn't see any. is this boat set up to run big boards?
  15. as much as i would have loved to have this boat we just dont have enough money to buy it. were getting a 89 sylvan that's a little more in our reach. even if he took the extras off the boat we couldnt swing it. good luck selling it.
  16. yeah he might take advantage of his kindness. hey tom i know you wasn't one of the 5 complaints. they should have asked the guys i took advantage of if they felt like i had taken advantage of them.
  17. hey tom sure been missing you guys. i had just put a new bimina top on my boat and just got back from erie. i backed the boat in the pole barn with the tip leaning back on the back frame. but it didnt fit and busted the windscreen on the drivers side plus pulled the top out of the boat and destroyed it. i had just a little insurance on it. but anyway my son and his wife said they would chip in on a bigger lake erie boat. so i started looking. tell all the guys on ogf i miss them.
  18. you said you replaced the long block with one from michigan motors. my whole engine in my 21' boat came from michigan motors. in 2010 i bought a new silver package and had them install it. the only problems i ever had was the water line on the outdrive busted and it overheated and blew both head gaskets. then another time on erie we heard the motor rattling and shut it off. the remote oil filter line vibrated loose and lost my oil. but thats been a few yrs ago and she's still been running. so i'm a firm believer in the quality of there engines.
  19. we've been looking at your boat but we've also been looking at a few others. were looking at a 270 sea ray and a couple of thompson 24' hardtops. i totaled my 21' boat and got 4000 from the insurance company. my son and his wife said they would chip in on a larger boat so that leaves me for the rest. i'm not sure how much were going to come up with. i know i would do better to show up and make you an offer. but before driving my truck that far at 12 mpg i'd feel better if i knew we could buy it. you have it listed for 8500 or best offer. if we came up to look at the boat and offered you 7500 cash would we be wasting our time? i'm not insulting your boat or you, were just limited on money. we have to pay 7% sales tax that's an extra 5 or 6 hundred. my son and his wife works 7 days a week recently but may be off this week end. would you be able to meet up sat for a deal if we can agree on price? how wide is your boat as we'll be trailering from muncie in to geneva oh?
  20. i love the 06 i used on wild hogs. one good shot 1" behind the ear and they go down and stay down. if i was buying for me it would be a 06. but i could see a small framed person going to the 270 if he was never going to hunt anything larger than deer.
  21. i'm getting in this game a little late but here goes. i used a friends 3006 for hog hunting and never even felt the kick. but if its a problem for you the 270 would be my choice. the 308's that i've shot including the m-14 in the marine corps seems to kick more to me then the 06. i love the way they shoot though.
  22. if i dont hear something soon and your willing to split them up i would be interested. how much you looking to get for one? i'm not sure what shipping will be.
  23. i'm a little late getting back to you and i'm sorry. the wanted section is in the same area as for sale. but i havent used it for some time now. hope you found what you wanted,
  24. would not need a lot of the gear. don't need depth raider. downriggers. depth finder, and were trying to get 12000 together to buy a boat. i hit my top on the top of the pole barn door and destroyed the top. the top bent the window rail busting the window. my ins agent said it was totaled but i only had it insured for 4500 and i get 4000 from it. i've about got my son and his wife to chip in 5000. that leaves me 3000 for 12000 for a boat. i know your thinking the 3000 shouldn't be a problem but i'm a 70 yr old disabled vet and money is hard to come by.. i think i can come up with another 1000 then i can get 2 more thousand from our home equity line of credit. please don't get upset i'm just asking.
