Looking at a Boston Whaler 235 Conquest so i woukd like any feedbck if the boat has twin motors is it possible to just use one motor for trolling or would that be a real pain trying to steer? I only have had single motor boats never a twin. Seems like a waste to salmon troll with like two 150 motors trying to do 2mph? I dont want to screw up my next boat purchase. Woukd i be better served one motor and a kicker?

Many fishing boats with twin outboards or inboards are used where only one is used as the trolling motor.   The owner usually alternates to keep the hours balanced.   I can go back as far as 35 years and remember a 25 grady white with twins that also had a kicker.   That is the first I can remember.   As the decades have moved forward more and more kickers have appeared on boats that have twins on them.   So by observation that has become a more popular option as time has gone by.

Been trolling with twin 150, one at a time, for over 10 years. We always check the hour meter to see which one gets the call, we put the quiet engine in reverse so prop doesn’t spin.  No issues with steering or autopilot

We used to troll on the mains for years with the 250s.  Some times we would have both engines running some times 1 engine dependent on currents and down speed.   We now troll with a 20 hp suzuki and it is great.  So much easier to really dial in speeds.  So yes we have twin main engines and a kicker

I run twin Suzuki 140's and troll 1 motor all the time. I usually have to pull bags and no issues. I also don't worry about balancing hours. For whatever reason, the port motor trolls better so I have significantly more hours on that motor. Maybe it has to do with the counter rotating starboard motor?? Either way I've been doing it for 11 years now.
