Got another one last night in the backyard. Took the pic this morning while we were running hounds.

I'm just asking...I did a lot of trapping back in the late 70's/early 80's and we would regularly get $80-$90 for red fox, $45 - $50 for greys....few if any coyotes back then. The market went to hell thanks to the PETA crowd. Is there still value in pelts or is it merely for sport/predator control?

From what I know only exceptionally big yotes or very cool colors bring much money these days.

Recently my wife asked why I shoot them if most of them end up in a dumpster. I asked her if she thought when I catch a mouse in a mouse trap in our house if it bothered her that they ended up in the dumpster. She smiled and went about her day.

As a young teenager I would take my racoon, fox, muskrat and an occasional mink pelts to an auction house in Alton, NY and walk away with  a few hundred $$ in my pocket! Big money for young country kid. If I had ever stopped to calculate what all the prepping traps, setting, checking daily, skinning, stretching and selling yielded as an hourly return, I probably would've been better off staying in bed. Not to mention more than one mid-winter dunking when checking muskrat lines.

Went out with a buddy last night.  Third set, walk into corn field and see about 10 deer.  Scan to our right and a 'yote was laying down about 200 yards out.  Buddy shoots and hits it, but were enable to find it after it went into the thick stuff.  Two sets later, new spot for me, one came hauling ass 20 seconds after we hit the call, no video but weighed in at 42#.  Was getting late, buddy headed home but i did a last set.  After calling for 15 min, got this guy at 37# (video).  2/3 on 6 sets.  I'll take that everyday.

Nice vid, always irked me that they have that center reticle colored red, wish they would just keep it green.

I can change it, but like to keep reticles separate for different rifles, and prefer the contrast.

Headed out tonight.   Gunne be a workout with the 12+" of snow.  Be happy to get an opportunity at one

Will be curious as to how you do, I have to imagine the movement is hugely limited with the deep snow.

Three sets, sat 10-15 min longer than normal assuming their movement would be slower, bunch of deer, no responses or coyotes.  Snow was over 12" deep in all three spots.  GUESSING snow was a bit too deep for them to move.  Unfortunate cuz weather was perfect.  Light snow, cloud cover, no wind....but still bright with the full moon.  I see weather warming up a bit next week.  Hopefully compacts the snow a bit and dogs get more active for breeding season.

Did a couple quick sets the other night before the warm up, no dice calling besides a fox. Fired up two different packs with challenge howl but neither would commit, despite being within 700 - 1000 yards.

Ended up putting the sneak on a bait pile yote (best I could, still a 200 yard shot due to crunchy snow). Smacked her. Enjoy the video.

Put another sneak on the bait pile last night. Crunchy snow hasn't fully melted, so I was only able to sneak to about 170 yards. Have two mangy yotes I have been wanting to kill, as well as two beautiful ones. This just happened to be an absolutely beautiful coyote. Hammered her and she was dead running. Just a gorgeous "red" yote, that was as fluffy as can be!
