Panfish technique

I've been hitting some local lakes and have been very successful using 1" Berkley Gulp off a small jighead on the deep edge of weed beds. I've seen a lot of fry in the lakes and these must mimic them. Generally the larger ones are underneath the smaller fish. Small crappies are also gobbling them up. Natural color seem to work the best for bluegills and the crappies like the chartreuse. The 2' Berkly Powerbaits also are working well and also take some nice bass in the mix.

I seldom use bait on panfish anymore.

I was catching Sun Fish and a few gills mixed in, one right after another last weekend on Butterflied with similar technique. The fish were suspended from 9-22 ft over 25 ft of water. I just threaded half of a 2in gulp minnow on a #8 glow hook and a couple shots. Used the side imaging to find them, there were several schools, some with over 200 fish in each. No need for live bait and the gulp stays on the hook for several fish.
