NYS guides license

Recommended Posts

YT:

I did talk to the DEC contact. Basically said its 70 mutiple choice

a portion of which is "open book" with a guide they give you with the

test. For the rest, she said the BSA fieldguide would be an option.

Just trying to judge if I can do it on the fly or if I should do some

reading first!

Im surprised there isnt first aid on there. Oh well, Im going this sping sometime...Ihave the paperwork and doctors form filled out already.
At the time of licensing and throughout the term of the license, applicants for a guides license must hold current certification in Community First Aid, CPR, and Community Water Safety through the American Red Cross or an acceptable equivalent. These certifications are not needed when applying to take the exam, but are required before a license will be issued.

i took the test this summer for hunting and fishing. i actually took 4 tests. 1 for hunting, 1 for fishing, 1 for general guiding, and 1 for boat and canoe use. the tests are mainly regulations and emergency situation questions. they only provide you with the regulations guides (hunting and fishing). they provide you with absolutely nothing really to study. it was suggested to study the bsa fieldbook. i would suggest also reading the regulations guide and general small boat safety info

example questions-

what is the min length for bass in lake champlain?

what is the maximum number of hook points allowed?

the tests are all multiple choice w/ four possible answers.

hope this helps

Thanks, there is very little information out there.

The DEC did tell me for a portion of the test they give you

a booklet to use, kind of "open book".

Irish...

That's the way I understand it. Wanted to get it for myself, and

also there is a slim chance that I would be pairing with another guy

to do some stream guiding down the road.....
