Best time for fishing

Recommended Posts

My brothers would love to come up next summer to try salmon fishing. They have asked what the best time would be but I have no clue. If you were have 3 fly in for some fishing when would you plan it?

Thanks

If you want good "eating fish" then May in Niagara County or July in Orleans County would be my choices for you. If you want a chance at a big fish the East end in August/September is where you want to be. However, those fish are beginning the end of their lives. Meat starts getting pale in color. It's not bad, but not the stuff we get up West most of the season.

Great, I would like some for the BBQ. I will reach out to the rest and see what the goal is. Question, what are your rates? I suggested to the gang that we do a chartter for one day to learn before heading out on our own.

I don't mind teaching/helping out.

Actually open to the area. I’m located south of cortland so I guess Oswego up north would work

Mid August to mid September out of Oswego/Mexico. Lots of fish and no pale meat.

I prefer beginning of August. By mid august onwards, especially if it's hot, the salmon already slow down on eating, and may not be as active.
