Recommended Posts

Had a hugee return on sonar down in the deep water, I switched my graph to lowrance “fish locator” in down scan and came up as a soft return anyone have any ideas? I usually have hard returns on trees

Are those your rigger weights around 95 & 110? Do you have your transducer oriented to face back, rather than straight down? If so, it distorts the shape of the fish arches.

I think it's a cluster of fish, just a few Lakers hugging bottom.

That's cool now, but I'll bet it was a nervous moment when it happened

Most likely a greenland shark, maybe a bull shark. Hard to tell.

I was thinking of running bigger lures

I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my chirp transducer and going back to traditional sonar.   The cone angles of even wide angle chirp transducers are roughly 1/2 the coverage area of a traditional transducer.    I’m starting to feel that chirp isn’t necessary for trolling on the Great Lakes. The increased resolution and target separation is nice if you are looking for structure or jig fishing for crappy, perch, etc but the narrow cone angle isn’t helping much when covering large

Looking to upgrade my helix 7, Its not marking fish. I've worked on the settings and NUFFIN. I catch fish, just no marks. Looked into CHIRP models, seems like they work better in deeper columns of water. Just looking to see what others have had luck with.   Thanks in advance,   Buckblaster   Sent from my SM-S767VL using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Thinking about upgrading. I like the Garmin 93sv plus unit. What transducer should I be looking to get? Mainly troll lake O, but occasionally Onieda or Erie for 'eyes. Thanks.

    • Yet another question about sonar

Way back when I was in the Navy I was stationed in SC. There I had a boat and fished my butt off. When I would troll at depths of about 150ft and 10 knots SOW I could still see my ball on my sonar. Today, I have a 17ft aluminum with lowrance hook2 splitshot.  I can not see my ball on the sonar down 50 feet trolling 2.5 mph SOG.  I checked my transducer alignment, sensitivity settings....what am I missing?
