Please recognize that the community here at LOU is not represented by a single person or a specified group of people but rather the IDEA of open communication regarding any and all issues concerning our fishery. We welcome your ideas as much as anyone else’s and hope to facilitate an environment that encourages the exchange of ideas absent of personal insults and broad rash generalizations such as what you have misinterpreted LOU of being above. Perhaps your thoughts ring to true to specific individuals (i.e., conservative, liberal, tree huggers, ect), but they, as you have above, also have a right to voice their opinion here on LOU. My point, and only request, is that you refrain from generalizing LOU as a specific group of people and think of our hard work here more as an open community and environment that fosters the exchange of ideas and debate in a way that is professional and unlike any other fishing forum you will find anywhere on the web. I understand the heated nature of such topics and ask all who wish to respond to keep in mind the site policy you agreed when you registered with the site and adhere to it (specifically the NO PERSONAL INSULTS portion) and focus on the debate at hand rather than “how stupid the other guy/girl isâ€. We are all fishermen here and we are all working towards the end common goal of providing the best fishery possible for generations to come. Thank you for your consideration.

Zack - I remember once I tried to T the hooks out on an size 8 x-rap and broke it! I think we can get away with it on musky lures because the hooks are much larger and thicker. The thinner, smaller hooks could weaken on you some enough to affect performance or even break such as my case. It could also just be that the x-raps have weaker hooks as the lure is made to suspend so they need to be lighter/less strong by default. That is just a guess on my end though…… C

Welcome aboard esn6! Glad to have ya I to try to make it up to the Islands at least once a year with the family. I have had good luck in the past casting some of those double jointed X-Raps (Perch Color). They suspend nicely and can worked fast or slow depending on the time of year and temp of the water. Seemed to produce fish when the old standby Dare Devils couldn't. Worth the extra buck to put at least one in your box.

Thanks Ray! Don't confuse me for being smart though... I was just trained on computers for the last 8 years. The upgrade seems to be running well with no reported issues so far (aside from the 10 emails a day I get from people forgetting their login information). That’s a funny point you make Lance as I think I saw the exact same show this weekend you are referring to. They had caught tons of ski’s and all seem to come on double tens. I happen to prefer jerkbaits/crankbaits myself when casting and had little success this year on bucktails. Maybe the answer lies in either the anglers preference to cover water quickly or even the basic skill set of the angler? I had this conversation once with Capt. Mike Sperry and he said he almost always has his clients cast bucktails cause it’s hard to really mess those up – fast or slow, jerky or smooth, left or right – they seem to catch fish. Triggering a fish to hit a jerkbait (Mike’s preference for casting as well) can be a little tougher though. However much harder it is to learn how to work a bait correctly, it is worth the effort to learn because once you figure it out it will really help to put more fish in the boat. 90% of my fish this year casting came on jerkbaits/crankbaits worked a variety of different ways.

Wow guys Nice going - Rob & Scott continue to have a great year in these ice fishing tournaments. Keep up the good work guys and sorry I couldn't make it out there with you. I had some friends in from out of town that wanted to fish Braddocks. It was slow there but we had a good time none the less. Next time though I will take you up on the offer. I could learn a lot of you guys - congrats again

Hey LOU-skis, Was wondering what the breakdown was for 2009 when it came to casting vs. trolling for you? I was just about perfectly split last year at 50% casting, 50% trolling. I was also just about perfectly split when it came to fish boated – 50% caught casting, 50% caught trolling. How did you stack up last year?
