That will make the bow ride lower in the water & obviously increase the weight of the boat. You may want to put the bags is a plastic pail or something, if possible. A broken bag will release a lot of sand into the bildge. Tom B. (LongLine)

Rolmops - Thanx for the update. Quite a firedrill, so many that short a time, isn't it....especially solo. This is the time of year for the upwellings to start occurring. Joe - Depends where you were fishing. Interesting thing about the lake is that while you're marking a certain temp, your buddy who is only a mile away can be seeing something entirely different. Here's that latest temp transects. Each "tick mark" on the upper graphs is a hair over 3 ft. From the reports I'm seeing, we may have a major upwelling in the next week or so. This is why you turn that feature off: Going very very slow, one rigg'r with probe was at 45, other at 50. When it was turned off, I had 3 lines across the screen. Definitely the Kaho. It conducts alewife & smelt netting transects at many places including Olcott, 30 mile, Oak, Hamlin, Rochester & a bunch of places East during May & June. They start around 140 FOW & go out to 500FOW or so. In mid July through August they take a shot at the laker population to get a handle on how restoration is coming along, same places plus a few randomly chosen ones. Gill nets plus a few trawls. The commercial guys (& there were only 3 in 2009) work out of the East end & target perch. Ocassionally, you'll see the newer SETH GREEN which sometimes assists the Kaho. Also sometimes you'll see the Federal LAKE GUARDIAN out there taking water samples. Tom B. (LongLine)

As rd said store it in a cool dark place. (not on the boat) Actually it's uv light that deterioates it so don't store it under flourescent lights. How long it's good for also depend on the #test. 30 Lb will deterioate and may only be as strong as 20 #, but hey that's still pretty strong. 8# on the other hand..... When you can pull it through your fingers and get a white powder on your fingers, toss it. Tom B. (LongLine)

If you're using 25 Lb & bending hooks then it's a pretty safe bet you drag is way too tight. Let them run a little, keep the line tight but don't horse them. Tom B. (LongLine)

Skipper - I don't know. I'm not one of those guys that stands in the stream whipping his fly so I have no experience with it. I've tried vegetable oil & baby oil but they don't last all that long. Shade - Haven't tried it yet this year, but last year, & the year before & the year before that & the year before that, it worked pretty well. What I do is spray a little on my finger & thumb then spool fresh line. Then out in the boat, every once in a while give the spool a quick shot. Tom B. (LongLine)

At the spring state of lake meeting DEC said that the preliminary and very preliminary figures indicated approx 20% of Kings were due to Nat Repro. Studies from SUNY ESF indicate that nat repro is highly variable from year to year. Tom B. (LongLine)

Welcome to the site. Nice job. 1st is definitely a steelhead. Bright white mouth no spots to speak of on the flanks. 2nd is a coho. Gray mouth/gums not black, shape of the anal fin, no spots on both halves of the tail.
