Can't explain it, don't know how or why. All I can tell you is what I've seen after marking and catching many hundreds of them with the same fishfinder. Many of the largest deep water Salmon I've caught appeared to be nothing more than a small more roundish than arch shape with a red spot in the center. At 40 or 50 feet a stationary mature fish would be a larger arc with a red spot in the center. And I'm not complaining one bit. On the 200 side of the screen these fish usually appear smaller than on the 50 side. Again don't have a clue as to why just the way it is. Glen

Based on alot of hours watching my screen, a mature King 100 ft down will appear as a smaller arch than a mature King 40 ft down. I run a Furuno 582 with thru hull transducer in manual mode. If memory serves me I had the same condition on my old Lowrance. Can't comment with any other brand. Also I beleive the location of the fish in the cone angle might have something to do with the arch size and shape. IE fish directly under the boat compared to a fish on the outside edge of the cone angle. Glen

No, you don't want to run copper or wire on 27's. Like Jax posted, not enough line capacity. Even running mono for LO Kings on 27's is shaky at best. Glen

Ater fishing with both setups, I prefer the roller rods hands down. Do you need a roller rod? No. But you don't need a Mercedes either when a Pinto will get you to the same place. Shimano makes a good rod available with the rotating tip roller. I have known guys who owned them and they all went back to the stationary tips. Something about the tips rotating a full turn and.... well give it some thought. My Shimanos were about $119.00, stationary tips. Glen

I use 20 lb flea flicker for a main line. In the east we are quite often still fishing Browns when the fleas show up. Glen

Not that I know of. Don't think it would be possible to monintor ALL the derbys on the Lake even if they had the money to do so. I know the DEC is involved with the Pro-ams and gather information obtained from those catches but thats about it for derbys and tournaments that I am aware of. I do know that in my boat we hope to have a HUGE inpact on the tonnage that is taken. Glen

Politics aside, the environment is cleaner RIGHT NOW than it has been in the last 100 years. We got to be doing something right. Balance and common sense can go along way. And thats without the lake being polluted and shut down with windmills and without closing boat ramps and with all us fishermen still catching fish. Mickell I respect your opinion and your right to state it but from what I see most of these organizations you mention would like nothing better than to take away our right to hunt and fish. Obama was 100% correct when he was campaining on how the country needs change. We need it, but a large amount of integrity and common sense needs to be in the mix. Just not seeing it and I follow this administrations actions very closely. Canals are still open and leaving the gate open for the Asian Carp !? That can't be very environmentally friendly. Inefficient, foreign made windmills, constructed in one of our nations natural wonders, stirring up long polluted sediment can't be very environmentally friendly either. Don't leave on account of a difference of opinion. Stay and share your viewpoints with us. There are two sides to every story. Post some Sodus reports for us also when you two get out. You don't really need a Flourocarbon leader to the flasher. Regular mono is fine. With the Flasher spinning in circles and the fly jumping around behind, the fish aren't that concerned with the line going to the flasher. Fly manufactureres use thick Flouro leader material because it's stiff and will impart more action to the fly. I only run flourocarbon leaders to my spoons and plugs for Salmon. 16 to 24 in from flasher to fly will work. Hope that clears it up for you. Glen

The heavy mono will be OK for dipsys unless the fish are deep. You will sacrifice depth on your dipsys using it. If you don't want to go with wire, braided line would be a better choice. Much thinner diameter without giving up strength. Just something to consider. Good luck Glen

Your very lucky as you would last about 10 minutes in this cold water. Sometimes you get caught in stuff. Fact of life. Next time head for shore, get close enough should something happen you can walk to shore quickly. I mean really close and slowly work your way back to port if possible. If not beach it tie it up and make a phone call. In these water temps theres not usually a second chance. Have a plan BEFORE you need it. Sorry if I sound like I'm lectureing I'm not. Just concerned. I was thinking the same thing after reading the Fat Nancy post Hank. I went up to F.N. but not until around 6:00 pm. Spent the day trying to clear snow/concrete off my deck and digging the tv antenna out of the ice on the roof. Almost had a fricken heart attack. Lure shopping and meeting you guys would have been much better. LOL Glen

For you guys that don't have access to the lake. I went up to open up the camper this weekend. The weather around me has been nice and I had some positive expectations when I drove up.....NOT. Still plenty of snow on the ground, the Little Salmon was completely iced in and the Bay is still completely socked in. Will be a good two weeks before I can get my boat out from where it's stored in Mexico. If the weather doesn't take a turn for the worse that is. Glen

Bluewater, 20 lb flourocarbon is a good line weight for fishing for Salmon and Salmon sized spoons will run just fine with it. The flourocarbon is expensive line so you might want to think about spooling up with a 30 lb mono and use the 20 floro as a leader. I use 20 to 30 feet. I also use 20 lb for running spoons and plugs from the dipsy to the lure. 30 lb mono from the dipsy to flashers and flys. I use wire from reel to dipsy. Glen

In MA it's a flat rate of $way-to-much-a-year.00 If you register a trailer in November you got to pay the whole year and it expires the end of December. Then in January they send you an excise tax bill, again for the whole previous year. Glen

It's not difficult if you have ANY mechanical ability. Suggestions would be to take your time and lay the parts out in the order you take them off on a CLEAN surface. I use a couple paper towels. Definatley have an asembly drawing of the parts and for me good light helps these old eyes immensely. One comes with the reel but I'm sure you could get one off the websight and blow it up and print it. Would make seeing the dam thing easier. Use proper fitting screw drivers so you don't strip anything and DON'T torqe anything down to tight when assembling. Use the correct grease on the washers. If you have another reel with you that will get you out of trouble in case you screw something up as you can look at how that one is assembled. Really not hard. While you got it apart look for other areas that need attention like cleaning or lubricating and do whats needed. Good luck. Glen
