  1. I agree with Hank. Also running a fish Hawk for years. Hated the battery useage. I now run a subtroll and wouldn't go back. The coated cable is a pain in the a_ _ but better than buying the 9 volts. Usually a couple repairs during the season. Next time I got to buy coated cable I will definatley get the long length spool so I got plenty for cutting some off for repairs. Even with damaged cable I don't have problems unless I got to go really deep. Glen
  2. Trout One won it. We were only able to do 4 Salmon and one guy on the boat wanted fish so I filleted them before we headed in. Bill that fillet board I bought off you is great with a few modifications to the mounting system. Saves alot of back pain compared to doing them on the side of the boat and is alot safer in choppy water. Glen
  3. I would not recommend trolling with any big outboard UNLESS it was a 4 stroke. It is harder on the motor than running full throttle for extended periods of time. I just bought a Yamaha 200 hp 2 years ago. The place where I bought it had the exact same motor as mine and it was in parts on the bench. I asked what was wrong with it and the mechanic told me it had 385 hrs on it and 320 of them was trolling. Washed out a cylinder and this was one of the newer HPDI 2 strokes. The older 2 strokes are worse. If you buy a 2 stroke put a kicker on it. You will pay for the kicker with the gas you save and will save the ware and tear on the big one as well as having backup power. If you want a dual purpose big motor get a four stroke. Good luck with whatever you decide. Glen
  4. i didn't like the quick draw rod holders on the outside riggers so I epoxied them closed. No problems since. Glen
  5. No to Vanish. Bought a spool of 8lb test a few years back. Got it home and peeled some out. Grabbed hold of the end and gave it a yank. Snappped like a 4 lb test. It went from there into the trash and took my losses. Pline 100% flourocarbon has been doing it for us for the light line Browns. Haven't tried the heavier stuff yet but when a Brand of light line is good usually the heavy stuff is good to. Glen
  6. Oak Orchard is probably the most consistant area to fish year after year. People in the area are friendly and it's a nice quiet area. Might be worth it to you to take a look around there. If it wasn't so far from where I live I would keep my boat there. Glen
  7. Thanks for the kind words guys. Thanks to a great team we pulled it off. Glen
  8. Another vote for the fish finder. Glen
  9. Hey Empty, We were next to you when you did that steely. Looked like a nice fish. Yukon Joe had the day off so he came out with us. We did more bullshooting than fishing but had a great time. Had a slow pick but we didn't work any fish. Just kept moving and sniffing around. I did a lousy job as rod man and when I did look back at them there was usally one bouncing. LOL. Great relaxing day. The wife told me if I dropped one more fish I wasn't getting supper. Glen
  10. Thanks Paul.
  11. Where do we send the east side Lake Cup money to? When does it have to be there by? Thanks Glen
  12. Good job Stix. Congrats. Glen
  13. NO NUDE DANCING Rich......
  14. We can't win them all Bob. But after 30 some odd years in the boat it still frosts my a_ _ when I can't get them going. LOL. Luck to you. Glen
  15. Seems to me they are fixing stuff that wasn't broken. Did they give you a chance to voice your opinions? Glen
  16. Well we post them good or bad. This is a bad one. Got out Sat. after 3 weekends of not fishing the Bay due to our trip out west. By the time I had the boat and the rods set back up it was after 7:00 and by the time we started fishing it was close to 8:00. Went west and set up my usuall brown spread and fished 20-30 fow. Man was there bait. The fish were there as well but I just couldn't get them to go. After about 3 hrs of not catching Browns we headed out to deep water looking for Salmon. got out to 100 foot and hit a steelhead. I handed the rod off to a guest on board and this fish had some shoulders. Within a very short time the fish won the battle and swam off with my #11 Rapala still stuck in his chops. 15 minutes later another rod went with a smaller steelhead on and again the rod was handed off. After a couple good jumps #2 swam away to fight another day. Worked the water for about another hour and a half before fish #3, another steely, took an nk off the wire dipsy with 50 foot of wire out. Irish Knots, (Chris) took the rod and we finally got one in the boat. probably just over legal size but he went back in anyway so no measurement was needed. Ended the day 2 for 5. Sunday was pretty much the same. Complete blank on the Browns (Man I sucked out there) and only one small steelhead from the points from the day before. Needless to say he didn't make it to the boat either. The fish won this weekend. Glen
  17. Congatulations on your new rig Musky. Glen
  18. Chris. Will give you a call this week. Will be up this weekend but got a lot of cleaning and waxing to do on the boat. As you know in April it went from snow and mud to hot fishing so I vowed to do it before the boat goes back in. Plus the cabin looks like a tackle shop exploded in there. Erbyjoe, Spoons we ran were mostly NK's with the setbacks at 25 foot 60 foot and deeper and 35-60 foot above that depending on how shallow I was running them. Wires worked out 80 to 120 but only had one good wire day. The riggers were best for us. Hope that helps. Glen
  19. Was a pleasure having you on board Chris. Great company and a good fishermen. Let me know when you want to fish the Bay. Glen
  20. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Can't beat the fishing out west this time of year although they were late comming in. The fish are typically alot further east by now. We should have got together while you were out. Maybe next year. Glen
  21. Started out on Saturday afternoon the 5th just east of the red can. Only fished for a couple hours running a 4 rod King spread and didn't move a rod. We were beat up from the trip out and getting the boat and camp situated and headed in early. Didn't mark anything but some lakers. Sunday morning got an early start and covered water looking for the big guys. Hooked up with some Cohos but kept moving because thats not what we were there for. After a couple hours it became evident the Kings weren't there yet so I pointed the boat west and we just kept going at a fast troll in search mode. Finally after a number of hours and about 15 miles the green spin doctor started screaming and the screen got busy. They were there in 160 fow and for a couple hours we boated maybe a half dozen kings. Monday morning as soon as it got light enough to see we were running. Lots of debris so I didn't want to travel in the dark. Stuff that would sink you if you hit it. Got to the spot only to find the fish had moved. There were still a few and we did a pair of Kings but not like the day before. We went into shallower water figureing thats where they went. Nope. Went further west. Nope. Headed out deeper and they were there. Just the wife and I and we beat up on them for the rest of the day boating about 15 or so all Kings. Thats pretty much the story for the rest of the trip except the numbers kept going up after we really had them dialed in. Only one day we had a decent fly bite and that was when a friend came out with us for a couple days. the rest of the time it was all spoons. The two days he was with us and I had a good 6 rod spread going we boated conservativley 50 fish with at least forty two or three being Kings. Did hook a few Cohos but not many with the spread I was running. We managed to put a 20 lb 10 oz King on the board on Wed. and managed another one over 20 on Thursday but did not want to kill that one for a couple onces more as I was pretty sure he wouldn't hold up anyway so he was released. As far as lures, it was a magnum spoon bite for us with green spoons being the most consistent producers. Had dodgers and flys going one day off the wires but the spoons were definatley more productive. As of Friday the fish were definatley moving in and east because after the wife and I beat up on them all moring I set up going back east to find some fish that were closer to us for the last morning of fishing on Saturday. We moved east covering different depths and found 70 fow to be keeping us busy all the way to 5 miles west of the Niagara before we had to pull them. During the fly bite it was a Siggs green fly that was the hot one behind a bullfrog dodger with a custom pattern he tied for me being the only other fly to take fish BUT the green was hot. They will be here soon. Glen Board fish A few for the folks back home [/img]
  22. Thanks for the offer Chris. I got a hold of Scott last night and he is going to pick it up for me and bring it out west. He's going out today and do a little scouting for us. See you in a couple days. Glen
  23. Bill, I'm interested. You going west next week? Glen
  24. Headed out solo just for a couple hours before I had to do a refrigerater replacement at the camper. What a pain in the a_ _. Anyway I ran 2 rods, both off shallow riggers with small spoons and fished for about 2 1/2 hrs. Headed west again and went 5 for 6. All Browns with the biggest about 6 lbs. Fished 20-30 fow. The fishing was a little tougher than it has been but who knows. I was feeling lazy and didn't work to hard as far as changing up stuff and other than fighting the breeze when playing the fish it was kinda nice. Saw other boats hooking up off the boards around me but nothing fast and furious. Sunday pulled the boat and buckled her down and it's off to the Bar next weekend for the LOC. Glen
