Team "Still No Sponsor" is looking for an observer for the Pro/Am Niagara event. Observers need to be available for the captain's meeting June 4th at around 6:00 pm, and then commit to the weekend event June 5th, 6th. Commitment includes being on the dock in Wilson or Olcott at 5 am each morning and staying thru weigh-in in the afternoon. PM me if interested.

I think (hope) if your boat is even drydocked near Lake O, you should be ok with the NW winds flowing over 45 degree water should buffer the lakeshore temps. As of now 8:18 in Buffalo, it is 52 degrees, but no cloud cover.

Yep still down. Two weeks until the Niagara deadline I tried to enter application, got a false release with no one home.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound good. I have a feeling that when the Greenland volcanic plume makes it's way around the world we will have a colder and wetter than usual month ahead. It seems like when ever we have large forest fires out west or northern hemisphere volcanic activity, we end up with a month-long run of bad weather to follow.

Crap, I may just have to buy some of the 5" to match the big alewives this year.

Anyone try these yet? Look kinda cool with a different concept on the action. Gander and Cabela's are carrying them. Was wondering if the action of these spoons are any different or just gimick.

I would second Ray's comments. For me 2.5-3 mph works best. Usually I am in the middle 2.7-2.8 with NKs.

The trend has been upward since we had that huge algae bloom two summers ago. Think about how Toronto and Hamilton have expanded in population......hey that means more poop in the system. Due to the poor spawning runs from poor stream levels and warm temps in Sept. and October in '06-'08, there are fewer fish in the system. Some back to back to back to back (hey a trend!) easy winters and there you have it........an explosion. I would not be suprised if the baitfish are actually feeding on the spiny water flea. Two thumbs up for stocking more Kings and Browns. There are plenty of Steelhead in the system out in the blue zone. The south shore is filthy with lakers right now......I don't want anymore Lakers thank you.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):4-24-10 Time on Water:3.5 hours Weather/Temp:Awesome Wind Speed/Direction:5-10 East Waves: 0-2' Surface Temp: 48.5 Location:Red Barn west of Olcott LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:Coho Hot Lure: Orange Dreamweaver Dodger/ custom tube fly Trolling Speed: 1.7 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 62'-68' Lure Depth: 20' ==================== Took father-in-law out (newbie) and brother in search of cohos for dinner plus Kings and lakers for fun. Someone did not tell the fish! I explained to my father-in-law that because of the east wind, we probably were not going to catch much. True to form.......east winds make for a tough bite. Ran a spread of dodgers/flys on bottom for Lakers......nothing but streaking. Plenty of hooks to fish over. Moved out a little deeper near a slick with debris and found some cohos. For some reason the cohos only wanted a orange dodger/fly stacked off a rigger at 20'. Could not get anything else to go. Frustrating day. Did see some nice mid-range hooks that looked like Kings, but couldn't get them to bite. So after explaining the intricacies of why an East wind sucks to my father-in-law, we proceed back to shore only to be greeted by Northfork Charters with a Mega box of Kings, Atlantics, Cohos, and browns Oh well, thats fishing. ====================

Depends on what you want to spend. Four tite-locks....$120.00 with some hasseles of retightening vs two Big Jon doubles for $400.00 that will last a lifetime and not need any adjusting. It is expensive getting a boat set-up, most go cheap and upgrade later, but if you can swing the more expensive models......you get what you pay for.

Walleye colors. White, chartreuse, yellow, orange, and glow. Weight depends on where you are fishing. In the trench, you need a little heavier weight. Up on the bar away from the trench, the current lessens. I like to use a jig with a short shank and apply a minnow, with a stinger hook. You would be shocked how many fish you are missing without a stinger. Make sure the hook shank is stout enough (saltwater gear) for when you hook that 20lb er.

Mini Vaca - Fishing trip - Mexico Bay to St. Lawrence
Gill-T replied to Irish Knots's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Great Pike fishing around all the islands and back bays. Since it sounds like you are going to be traveling daily, just put out a spread of large stickbaits or pike spoons and troll the deep weed edges near the multitude of islands. At night, the bass move up from deeper water in shallow and can be caught with minnows or shiners. Muskies where the pike are, plus you can troll the deep current areas with downriggers for the big boys. Walleyes in a few select deep drifts with current. Great fishing........enjoy the trip. -
Just looked at my unemployment tax bill on my paychex invoice and noticed NYS charges a surcharge on my unemployment tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is that "tea-party" sign-up sheet?

Did you try hitting it with a hammer? -
Spro makes pre-made musky/pike leaders with heavy fluorocarbon. Gander Mountain carries them.

Are you the "Riggermortis" on Spoonpullers.com? If not, you may have someone else with your boat name floating around in Canadian waters.

WELL I TRIED!!! PRO/AM COMMITTEE and everyone.

Ray, the DVD sponsor packs are not ready yet.....still in production, be patient. -
You mean we are not going to see you on top of your flybridge getting rained on any more?
-
Jerry, I would be willing to bet your 26' Penn yan is as heavy as Paul's 30' Trojan. The only reason you fish for Browns is your boat is too heavy/expensive to take offshore!

R&R Razor spoons

Did they get rid of their thin silver-scale series? That would suck. -
Town of Somerset wind symposium!!!
Gill-T replied to Capt Vince Pierleoni's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Vince, are they proposing windmills out in the lake off Sumerset? Seems they have plenty of greenspace near the plant to put them on land. -
Because they are talking about closing the launch at Wilson state park, you may want to make arrangements to get a slip at Olcott. You can leave from either port.
