We gave half to boat we could have had all of it. I spent 6hrs yesterday butchering and vacum sealing up tuna steaks at least 200lbs worth or more. I did keep all of the blue fin he was perfect with lots of fat I should have ran down to the city and sold him. LOL If you get a tuna over 73 inches he belongs to the boat. Sean

Team Reel Hooked Up took on the Atlantic yesterday! We departed Avalon NJ for what was planned to be a 24 hr. Tuna fishing adventure. After an 80 mile ride out we were anchored up over a temp brake in 145 fow, and the screen was lit up with big tuna. When the first line hit the water at 4pm it was game on, yellow fin and blue fin tuna were crushing the baits and the drags were screaming. Jason hooked up with the first big yellow fin on a jig, as he was battling that beast I hooked up with a big blue fin on a jig that about took the rod out of my hands, then my dad hooks up with a big tuna on bait. This bite lasted till ten pm I don’t think we ever had a minute that we didn’t have a fish on. We finally had to call it quits and head in due to the fact we had more than enough fish and none of us could reel in another fish. We caught a couple major bonus fish. Jason got a big hammer head shark that took live bait off a kite rig, and I had a battle of a lifetime with a giant ray that took forever to get to the back of the boat. I bet the thing was 8ft wide and did not want to show itself. But the best surprise was the big Blue Marlin that I hooked up with on a 40lb leader bait rig. I hooked up with what I thought was another tuna on a bait at the back of the boat, just as I yelled fish on he came out of the water at the back of the boat and everyone’s jaws dropped. I was surprised I got to keep him around the boat for several good jumps and I thought I might have a chance. About that time he went ballistic and got tail wrapped, last I saw of him he was headed north mostly in the air and 200 yards from the boat when he broke the 40lb Floro. This was one heck of a trip my Mom, Dad, Jason, myself and both of our wives were on the trip we all had a blast. Figured I would post a few pics. It’s amazing the fishing we have within just a short drive from this area. Jason and his Wife Double My Blue Fin Dad with a good Yellow Fin Shark A few of the many! ?? LOL My Marlin waving good bye

Every tournament is a pot of luck when you fish against the guys that are on the water now days. They know how to put fish in the boat. We payed $1000 to fish the one day Wilson tourney with no time on the lake, only days we fish the West end is in the Wilson tournament. You put your money in and hope for the best. When your dealing with a small field of boats like we have down this way you need the high entry to have any type of pay out. I hope the guys down this way will jump on board and get entered. I am going to take money from my pocket to make sure the kids that fish this event have a chance at a pay check, thats not counting my teams entry fee. Thanks Sean

I was suprised it lasted as long as it did Paul. That bridge has trash walking over it and hanging out under it 24hrs a day. I swing over it several times a night when im working and try to run them off. Lots of crap walking around up that way this time of year. Like nick said check to see if marina has anything on camera I don/t know how far Walmart cameras reach we have used them several times for help. Sean

Thanks for the report We were ot today also, we got a late start and the lake got bumpy with the 25mph South wind. Caught a lot of big lakers but only two short salmon. Having to start at 8am didn't help with the Brown and Salmon bite. Sean

Thanks Nick, Pulled the boat out of Seneca and will be on Cayuga with my trips Sunday and Monday. I love that spot up North. I got the pic mike sent me that was one great fish. Sean

Call Great Lakes planers or get on his website, Tony is a great guy and he will have what you need. You are also helping a local buisness. I have the cannons also they have been ok. I lost the end caps on a couple of the cannons that were less than a year old. Called cannon up, and cannon rep was told I had to order and pay for the part. Thousands of dollars spent in the last two years on Riggers and holders and I have to send money for a three dollar end cap and pay nine bucks in shipping. All for some thing they didnt glue on the first time. Kind of puts a bad taste in your mouth, since I have baught 8 riggers in the last three years. Sean

It wasn't just you! I took two of the girls and my wife out on seneca tonight, lake had layed down and looked good. Fished up the west side with only two small lakers in the boat. I figured it would suck this am but not tonight, I was wrong. I bet things will take off in a week or so. The temp on top was 61 and 56 deg down 40 had a good T-cline setting up from 55 to 60 ft down. Sean

Hi Folks, Any of you guys know of a metal fabrication shop that makes big grills, kind of like the one skipper19 just got. Looking for something big enough to do a hog on and am sick of having to rent one. I don't want to have to buy one from texas or down South. Thanks Sean

Hi Hal, Hard to say what problem is with out seeing the way the release is set up. Do you have the release hooked to the ball, or is it on the cable? This year I dumped all my blacks that hook to the ball. I also run 4 riggers with two pancakes on the outside. I got the blacks that you run the rigger cable threw. Put those on with a bead and a crimp two feet above the ball. Helps on the back also, the ball stays in the water when I put the line in the blacks, and you have no pull on the rigger weights. Might be worth a try before you buy new rigger weights. We blew big money on black sharks this year ran them for three weeks. When jason and I put the old 12lb led weights back on the riggers took off again. Who knows? I also have the torpedo weights they work also I do have one that will spin that is just a problem with the one weight. Good luck and let us know how you make out Sean

Just some good black spray paint and you are ready to go!

Flutter spoons won't change your dipsy's depth. The only problem I have had with some flutter spoons is they don't do well at the fast speeds I like to run. Since you are running #1s on a 3, I would put a 12 to 14 ft leader of 12lb or 15lb floro on each diver. Then run a standard size Stinger in Orange NBK out 120 on the other diver run a DW SS in lepard frog or green gator out 150. This will take your Browns, Bows, and Salmon all summer. I was out today the T-Cline is seting up at 50 to 60ft. Also spend some more time over 120 to 230 fow running 2.3 to 2.5 gps speed, down speed 2.2 to 2.5. Good luck and let us know how you make out Sean

Nice job Blue Ghost What did that Brown weigh in at? Lots of Big Browns in Seneca but not to many pigs were caught that weekend. The flat water and full sun didn't help. One thing I was happy to see was the amount of Rainbows looks like they are making a come back.

Hookjaw He said it better than I can. I hope you need help some day on the Lake Pokepole 39. The list is a mile long of guys on this site that know they can call me for fising info any day of the week, and they are not charter Capts. I dont know what charter Capts you could hear on the radio we were on the phone to much crap on the radio. As for the good brown good job My clients had several Browns in the 5 to low 6 lb range, some of them would of been weighed in as Bows at Sampson if I dindn't correct the folks at the scales . ( any one else have that problem?) Just sounds like you have a problem with charter Capt or the LOU crew. Boat Reel Hooked Up Capt Sean Brown

5-23-12 thru 5-28-12 Seneca Lake Trout Derby
Hookedup replied to Iron Duke's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Great report Mike Thanks for all the info it was a big help. Those were some great fish you guys got earlier in the week. -
Seneca 05/26, 05/27, and 05/28 had a three day trip for the derby with some friends and clients out of PA. Like Jason, Nick, Mike, and my other fishing friends from the LOU we had a great weekend. Jason and I decided to work different areas I worked the South end in the morning for silver fish and he ran North for Lakers. Day one we put lots of Browns and Bows in the boat up to six lbs. before the fish shut down. Jason was getting into the Lakers so we ran from Watkins to Sampson and got into the Lakers. We had some good fish but no derby winners. Each day we had a few get off that were contenders. Had a monster bow get off at the back of the boat just North of Dresden. Sunday we got an early start and had an amazing early bite. We set up shop South of the salt plant. I got 5 boards out on the shore side, one of my riggers and a mag dipsy with a MT dew flasher and a reel hooked up fly. As soon as I stopped the dipsy at 90 it fired with a 6lb Brown. Then all hell broke lose all the boards and the rigger fired. Before 6am we had 4 Bows, and 3 Browns in the boat . The bite died off and the crowed moved in, a quick call to Jason and I was running back to Sampson for more Laker action. Today (sunday) we fished for a couple hours on the South end and put 6 good fish in the box. Then we ran in and cleaned the boat after a long weekend of pounding the fish. Hot rigs all weekend were 4, 5, 6, color core, 100, 200, 300 copper (with spoons), wire dipsys out 90, 150, 180, 230, 280, and 300 with flashers and flies, rigers at 40, 60, 70, and 90 all took fish. Congratulations to all of you that placed in the derby, it was fun fishing with you all weekend .
