I called the company and they gave me my money back instantly. On top of that they gave me a very plausible explanation as to why the captain had decided to cancel the trip. In the process they also pinpointed the area where they fish and showed me the local weather report for that particular patch of the ocean. That convinced me that I will try again next year. As for booking a private charter, I would love to, but given the price and the potential alternative use of that money just makes it unrealistic.

So the trip was canceled for the third time in a row. Except, this time I got the cancellation call 400 miles east of Rochester on my way to Hyannis. This time, the captain canceled because of the weather that was brewing for Tuesday. The funny thing is that all the buoys in the area that we were supposed to fish showed waves no higher that 3.5 to 4 feet and the weather forecast for the fishing period was good specially for a hundred foot boat. I feel that the captain did not want to go out with a group that was just slightly larger than the minimal number required. I really feel pissed off after paying a $113 down payment, reserving a hotel, traveling 400 miles and on top of that being threatened to have my car towed from the Helen H property when I came there to talk and clarify the situation. Oh did I mention the three days I took off from work? My feeling is that the company just blew off the paying customers and hid behind a storm that the captain conjured out of a clear blue sky. Unless they come up with a really good explanation and my money back , I will not use them again and I will file a complaint with the Cape Cod chamber of commerce, although I suspect that they will cover for their own people and not the customers.

I believe that the minimum is something like 15.The rig leaves out of Hyannis. It is the Helen H a one hundred foot aluminum boat that goes fast enough to come up on plane. On Monday we are 16 people (so far) on an ultra limited (max 24 people) trip. I think the Weekend trip which has a limit of 30 people will be fishing.Their phone # is 1-508-790-0660. you can reach me on my cell at check your pm

Trip was canceled . There are not enough participants. I switched to another trip on Monday and Tuesday. So now I will be fishing in Woods Hole on Saturday and Sunday for stripers ( not strippers) and then go off shore.

I'm leaving tomorrow for Hyannis (Cape Cod) and from there on to deep water about sixty to eighty miles off shore in the canyons. We are targeting Swordfish, Mahi Mahi and Yellow fin tuna. I hope to put up some mind boggling pics by Friday night

The truth is sadder than that. NYC does not think about us at all. But some upstate companies and counties are very eager to offer NYC room for the garbage. The stinking in our backyards was created by the local county officials that you voted for. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I am a firm believer in Carharrt bibs and jackets. They keep me warm and dry. Besides, I wear them while working outside in winter so they serve multiple purposes.

Cayuga Cayuga Power Plant- end of an era
rolmops replied to Bigfoot's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I fondly remember going fishing there in winter with my son when he was but 8 years old. All the rainbows and landlockeds. But it is a good thing that the plant is no longer sucking in millions of tiny fish only to kill them while cooling the generators and producing steam. -

I google “ Oswego buoy “. That gives me the wind speed half a mile off Oswego. It also gives an interactive map with yellow squares on different locations. Click on the dot you need and get local info. All the info you get this way is real time. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Cayuga Major theft in Aurora last night
rolmops replied to justtracytrolling's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Hey Skyman tone down. My wife attended that college . Anyways, we spent many a happy evening in the Fargo. On another note. To rob 6 boats points at an organized operation with people who know what to steal and where to get rid of it. Probably not local and not some druggies. That stuff will probably show up somewhere in Georgia or Alabama. -
It starts well before a hatchery, goes through 2 parks and ends in a bay. Large areas have had the silt removed about 10 years ago and gravel beds have been improved. we catch king salmon there in fall at some holes of its 79 mile length. Plenty of trees and holes along the way and rumor has it that atlantic salmon also successfully spawn there. That's enough info.

You are right. The data on that buoy is very limited. It does however come with a map that has yellow squares on it .You can drag that map around to see other areas of the lake. If you click on those squares, it will give you all the local data for the place where the square is located.

rolmops replied to Inthebox30lbs's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I don't quite get the age thing. Does the counting start at incubation time in Altmar or does it start when the fry is released into the lake? as I said, "invited", -

Terrible, inept,EXPENSIVE outboard service rant
rolmops replied to bulletbob's topic in This Old Boat
All the Johnson /Evinrude 2 strokes up to the 90s are set up to accommodate tiller and remote. The tiller handle is easily removed but does not even have to be removed to change it into a remote controlled(cables). A lot of the 80s Johnson /Evinrudes are only longshaft because there is an added extension in the gear housing that can be removed. that and cutting a piece of the copper tubing and a different driveshaft will give you the short shaft you need. -
Terrible, inept,EXPENSIVE outboard service rant
rolmops replied to bulletbob's topic in This Old Boat
The simple truth is that 2 strokes are on the way out and technician training is aimed at 4 stroke outboards. Fewer and fewer shops take in 2 strokes. At the same time there are a few million old two strokes that are alive and well and will be so for the next 50 years. I have 2 1957 35 horse Johnsons that still work just fine and unless some anti pollution law will render them useless they will probably last another 50 years. This is very common for old two strokes ,mainly because they see relatively little use. But most of those old seahorses are maintained by their owners, rusting away somewhere or thrown out by the children of the original owners. Still, there are a few older technicians left who deal mostly with old 2 strokes and have all the spare parts you might need and then some. One of those is Mayers Marina in Webster,NY. Old Bill Mayer is one of those. By just listening to the motor he can tell you what it needs. He is very proud of his 1920s and 30s collection of 2 and 4 stroke outboards, which you probably will not get to see. If you need to have a 2 stroke fixed and get a warranty on the work,he is your address to go to. Don't bother bringing a 4stroke to him for service. He does not like them.
