  1. Take it to a shop that does aluminum welding and have them weld it. Have had to do the same with 2 boats that I have had, is the easiest and for sure way of solving the issue.
  2. On a 56 Crestliner I needed to replace some other wood besides the transom, the only way to do it was to buy two to make the width.
  3. Sold 4/15/12 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4x4 , tan cloth interior, factory receiver hitch. I bought this used with 12,000 miles on it in July 2005. It currently has about 106,700 on it. As I have a 50 mile daily commute, it has highway miles on it. I have repair records which include recent brakes all around, tie rod ends, ball joints, transmission line replacement, bearings etc. No dash lights on. It has been primarily my main vehicle with usually just me in it, no dogs, no carting children etc. No smoking in it as well. It has had every maintenance need addressed when needed, including touching up the door bottoms for example. No rust or body damage. This one stands out among used Trailblazers. Asking $7200 or best offer. Located in Dunkirk NY.
  4. Just finished switching out a cable and I have seen this before, often times you need to loosen or move the engine because there is not enough room or give to get that cable disconnected and out.
  5. I am in favor of less government intervention, but if this course could be offered on line or in a number of other ways, I am in favor. Money should go to a facility improvement fund(boat ramps, public marinas etc). Most of us who are NY residents, had to do this to operate a boat when we were under 16 way back when.
  6. sold 3/29/12 Boat is located in Dunkirk NY. 1990 Starcraft 16ft Heritage, open bow fiberglass. 1994 Mercury 90 hp 2-stroke with power trim and 1990 bunk trailer. Boat has a convertible top which is like new. The canvas docking cover for it is shot, but have all the bows. Small swim platform on the back. Outside condition is 9 out of ten. Interior condition is 8 out of ten. Most of the vinyl is good, not cracked etc. A little strategic repair will likely get a decade more of use. Floor is solid. This boat can be towed by just about anything and on the water you get the ride of fiberglass. The mid-90's merc is fuel efficient and this boat will really haul down the lake. Asking $3800 or best offer. Here is a sampling of pictures and get more for you if needed.
  7. bump
  8. In original box with warranty card. Brand new never used, purchased from Cabela's in 2010. Single bank on board charger. $50.00 Located in Dunkirk NY-could arrange to meet in Hamburg or Buffalo. Or ship it for whatever the charge is.
  9. bump
  10. Sold 3/22/12 Sylvan 17ft aluminum canoe for sale. This is a typical aluminum canoe, no rivet issues and no leaks but the typical bumps and bruises that come with being beached or subject to fall windstorms. This is the perfect addition to a camp, cottage, pond or for taking a casual tour up the creek. Asking $300.00. Located in Dunkirk NY. Pictures were taken sitting on the trailer and no, the trailer does not come with it. Thanks for looking
  11. this is not my boat but a 1600 is a 16 ft-further backed up by the fact it only has the 50hp on it.
  12. You can also look around for a regular 12 ft cartop-just have to find the right one because some are very low sided. Also a 12-14 v-bottom boat or pram is not going to weight that much and if you found one with a trailer it can be towed with just about any small vehicle. After you put something on top of a car for a couple trips, experience may tell you that a trailered boat is much more convenient.
  13. Don't know where you live or how far you want to travel. I would keep my eye on craigslist, for example there was a recent posting on the finger lakes link for a 17 superfisherman. Good boat, I had a 98 17 and an 85 18.
  14. The best chance for limited wind and minimizing the chance for blow-off's is the last couple weeks of July and the first two weeks of August. Usually it is so warm there is very little breeze. In addition, you can find areas that are adjacent to bays or creeks for your point of entry or as someone stated above make sure you are close to the finger lakes as a back up. I have been going to Lake Ontario for over 25 years and on most trips there is at least one blow off day. And it doesn't matter if you are trailering a freighter on a day like that.
  15. Going back to the 1970's Trailer Boats did several motor swaps on i/o's usually moving up from a four cylinder to an eight cylinder and keeping the lower unit from the four. Switching out the prop was the solution to the gearing or rpm issues.
  16. Been there every year since it started. There are deals to be had and if you are interested in any of the used equipment, you need to get there first thing-it goes quickly and there has always been a good crowd in the am.
  17. I bought an 86 last year, someone re-did the interior five years ago and the boat sat. Needed the transom done last year. Found a used Mercury 90 four stroke for it last year. Need to repaint it this year and get some canvas work done. These are functional boats-can handle the big lakes but can be used on the small ones and can be towed by anything that can pull 1500 pounds or so.
  18. As you specified no cuddys, my suggestion would be a 19 aluminum fish and ski boat, meaning open bow with full windshield. Those are made by Starcraft, Crestliner, Lund, Sylvan and many more. Outboard powered, is very light to tow and fuel efficient.
