    I responded on the FB thread - but definitely not an A-Tom-Mik fly. Tom doesn't tie his flies on the elongated tubes. Might be a Howie fly? Harness looks like an A-Tom-Mik Tournament tie however.

    The area has a bunch of browns currently - they slide around and in and out depending on the currents and wind/water which causes temps to move around. There is a lot of bait in the area as well - find areas with bait but not too much and you should be in business.

    Well - they don't ask to see your license when you roll through a roadblock...it's essentially a "safety check" looking at seatbelts and to make sure your vehicle is inspected which is safety related as well, registration you can argue is safety related due to insurance requirements. Many marine enforcement units do safety checks on the water - stop you to make sure you have the appropriate number of life jackets on board, working fire extinguishers, flares etc. Those checks have been ongoing for years. That feels more akin to the roadblocks you are talking about.

    I don't think there will be "checks" to see who has taken the course and who hasn't for the same reason there aren't checkpoints on the highways to see if someone has a license. That being said if you get stopped for breaking a boating law or acting like an idiot out there then it becomes a nice tack on fine that get's imposed if you have not taken the course. That's kind of the way I see it playing out....

    Transducers measure distance not depth - for instance you can have 100' of downrigger cable out and it will mark your rigger balls approx 100' down - as you speed up and blowback becomes a factor those rigger balls could be sitting at 85' down with 100' of cable out but its still displayed as 100' on your display because the rigger balls are 100' away from your transducer. I wouldn't worry too much about bottom depth...

    I physically set the transducer at an angle of around 15 degrees or so back/tilted up from level when installing (measured with an iPhone) then electronically adjust the beam angle from there when fishing. No issues seeing riggers ever.

    20 years ago early May was fishing solo out of a tin tiller boat on Canandaigua pulling an inline offshore planer on each side of the boat on the east side just south of Thendara. Hooked and landed a giant brown - to date still my largest BT. We have handled a ton of high high teens fish and a couple kissing 20 pounds on lake ontario over the years and that BT out of Canandaigua was bigger. I didn't weigh it but released it and was confident at the time it was over 20 as it swam away. Before the days of camera phones, goPro's and everything else. I still have the old Orange/gold Jr. Thunderstick hanging in the garage that fish took and chewed on.

    Are you just going to run your fishhawk straight off of a dedicated battery? Most folks wire them into their DC system - its not so much the battery capacity you need to worry about its whether or not your charging system on your boat can keep up with everything else running. Without knowing exactly what you are doing and the rest of your setup its hard to say. If you are planning to just wire it direct to a lithium battery that isn't connected to anything then see how much current draw the unit has and multiply that by 8 hours if that's how long you plan to trol and that's the number of amp hours of capacity you will roughly need - multiply that by 2 to ensure you have a little buffer.

    To me water visibility is one of the bigger factors - clear water never be afraid to throw some speed at them - green water you can pretty much fish at whatever speed you want. Really really dirty water - slow seems to give them a little more time to find the bait. Over the years that's been our experience. Our speed can range from 1.8 to 3.1 depending on what baits are in the water, water clarity, and what the fish tell you.

    Turtle Cove or Little Sodus Inn launches you can probably use although they both require you to drive the length of the bay to get out......not sure what you can launch at either of those places with low water levels but you could probably make it work.

    If your PA registered boat remains in NY for 90 consecutive days it is supposed to be registered with NY state in which case you would need to hold a valid boaters certificate - if you just keep it registered in PA you can probably get away without needing a certificate but technically you are breaking the law - probably will never be an issue unless you are involved in some kind of accident that involves an investigation.

    I did a set of Daiwa Eliminator Diver rods for a friend last year - had some sentimental value as they were his grandfathers. Pretty much have to strip the blank down and start over. Had way more into it in materials than you could buy a new comparable rod for - and once you factor in labor it will start to get more expensive. Rods turned out great and hopefully he gets another 30 years out of them.
