  1. We fished out of Hughes marina this year due to the flooding in Sodus Bay. Big Fish Friday was cancelled due to small craft advisory. So we just hung out until dinner and had a nice time with all captains and veterans at dockers on Sodus Bay. The forecast for Saturday another small craft advisory with 4-6' waves and building as the day went on. Woke up Saturday morning and was met with 2 foot waves and it was a go. I worked Waters from 120-450. We took 2 skippies in 200 and 240 with a pretty blank screen until we hit 400. Waves were building 3-5 with occasional 6s. Then the screen lit up and the dispey out 370 tarted screaming and within 5 minutes our 70 rigger starts ripping as well. Doubled up !!!! We dropped the dipsey fish and landed the rigger. A 18+ lb king. As we tried to make the turn back to our waypoint I broke off my probe torpedo weight and wrapped 60' of cable around my kicker prop. I fired up the main motor and got us going with the waves, I put on a life jacket and over the back I went on the swim platform. I removed the prop and all cabling in 5' waves (wasn't pleasant). By the time all was said and done we were in 280' and pointed south. I didn't have enough time to make the run back to 400 so we decided to troll all the way into the dock. We never moved another rod. At the weigh in there were a lot of fish caught but they were mostly 2 year olds in the 10-15 lb range. We ended with the 4th biggest king out of 34 teams. My Vet was great and we had a great time. The event went as smoothly as it could. The weather was great and everyone from the captains, the vets, all the volunteers and spectators were great 'Bout Time Mike
  2. Good decision Nick. The ride in from Fair Haven was not pleasant this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. I'm running mine to Hughes tomorrow as well. I'm coming from Fair Haven. 25 miles in 5-6s doesn't sound like fun. Tomorrow looks decent 'Bout Time Mike
  4. My Sunday is open. I would rather be able to take someone and make it enjoyable for them vs. unpleasant. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. Worst part is the cap and rotor were done last year along with plugs and wires. Fuel separator was new this May. All in all I'm pretty anal about my maintenance and servicing. I'm not complaining at all. It cost me 100 bucks for all the new parts and additives and I'm back in action now Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and help Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Just returned to dock. She ran flawlessly. I was able to get 25 knots / 3700 rpm into the waves and it never hiccuped. Ran it for about 15 minutes or so just to let it get a good test. Stopped and accelerated to cruising speed 3 or so times. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. Water separator changed, fuel filter changed, new cap and rotor, K100 added to fuel, carburetor sprayed and cleaned......5 mph ride to lake to give it a try Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. That's always the plan if I can't figure it out on my own. You know me and I like to turn some wrenches first 'Bout Time Mike
  9. Took the family out fishing and my boat started to surge after I got it up on plane. It would drop 300-400 RPM and come back. I thought it might stall a couple times. It is fine on low rpm and only does it while up on plane. I checked the inline fuel filter and checked for debris. It was clean. I replaced it any way and it still does it. I only run non-ethanol 87 gas. Could this be bad gas ? Water in gas? 'Bout Time Mike
  10. Head first, and scoops down at a 45* or higher angle. Make sure to "plunge down" and get net deep enough. The water and boat moving will raise the net automatically to the surface. A lot of fish are lost because the net isn't deep enough and people try to slide the net under the fish and that's when the hooks get tangled. It should be one fast motion: Fish Head first Net Steep angle Plunge down And lift up Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Those boards pull extremely hard, but if your grab rails are solid they should be able to handle it. Make sure you get a board snubber. I've also seen guys add springs to their pulleys to absorb some of the strain. 6 copper rods ? You are a braver man than I Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. There is a launch at little sodus inn that is open Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. Kings are spread from 120-500. They are following bait. The bait has started to "break up" into smaller groups and spread out. Find the bait and most likely you will find a fish or 2 though not all bait pods will have fish on them. I know guys who have done well in 150 and at the same time the guys in 500 are having just as much luck. Don't be afraid to cover lots of water Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. I had mine in a flush mount rod holder (30*) or so. You can run it about 45* or better but I'd make sure that the drag is loose. I also secured the reel with a strap (bungee) as extra security measure 'Bout Time Mike
  15. I run 3 riggers off and 8.5' beam boat. Two off the corners at 90* and one of the center with my probe. My current program is flashers off the corners and a clean spoon down the middle. All the riggers are at least 10' apart in the water column My question is how many run spinnies/flashers on all 3? A majority of my fish (90 %) are off flasher setups and I'm just looking for a way to capitalize more.
  16. I experimented last year with a "chute" diver. I ran two riggers on each corner out 90* and two side divers on a "2" setting. I then ran one diver down the chute on a "0" setting. It took many fish and worked well. I highly suggest NOT doing it when the currents are strong though. Let it out extremely slow and keep the boat straight as it is deployed. Wide turns as well Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. I have the Cush it and it works well if the rod handler has good control. For younger kids I prefer I belt. It keeps the rod butt in position and doesn't allow any slip. Sometimes with the Cush it if you don't apply down pressure to keep it against your body it will slip. I just picked up an extra belt from Gander @ 30% off cost me about 10 bucks. I do pull the pin out of the cup and it works well. I already had a belt on board that was a little too big for their waste but it is easily rectified by just placing a towel or sweatshirt between the belt and their backs Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Side doesn't matter. Mine is on the starboard side (left as looking back from my seat). I do a lot of solo fishing and wish it was on the other side to offset my weight and even out the boat more Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  20. That will work but you really want something that the line can slide through. The boards swing in and out and with the waves causing the planer board line to jump up and down will more than likely cause the line to come out of the Weldon release Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. I use Scotty power grip. They work great. I run 450 and 600' with no problems. You can buy a "stacker" and cut the line between them making 2 singles for cheaper Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. You have to make a "tether line". Basically it's a separate line with a clip that is small enough to prevent the releases to go through. I just use Scotty clips only because that's what I had laying around. I've seen guys use carabiners, dog clips, etc. this helps keep the release from going down and you use this to pull the main line in to attach a new fishing line to. Look over his shoulder in the pic and you can kind of see what it looks like 'Bout Time Mike
