  1. i would go somewhere along this route. they will run you from $8-20 a set and are 10 gauge wire which is what is standard for Dowriggers. there alot of other options such as twist lock, recepticle etc. all depends on your preference. http://www.amazon.com/MinnKota-MKR-12-Quick-Connector-Plug/dp/B001PTHKRG/ref=sr_1_7?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1426114424&sr=1-7&keywords=MKR-18+%7C+1865101
  2. if you are on feeding fish and bait i would concentrate more on your speed and offerings (some times just a subtle color change in lures or your speed makes a HUGE difference). Also agree to always have one rod in the ICE water. it may not fire as often but this will usually be your biggest fish
  3. YES - BLACKS ARE THEY WAY TO GO
  4. if you are looking to rail it mount it you need to have the adapater shown below. the standard vee clamps are used for mounting from 7/8†to 1½†diameter rail
  5. I have gone through 3 boards on my probe rigger carrying a 15 lb weight. I have downsized to 13 lb for now and it seems ok. You can get a new board for around 75 bucks and do the replacement yourself to help save some coin. Still frustrating as HE!@ though Mike 'Bout Time
  6. as every spring thaw be careful to watch for debris too. I was a little too eager one year and was not only dodging ice chucks but floatings logs and debris that were freshly washed down river into the lake
  7. came across this one today and remebered your post http://toledo.craigslist.org/boa/4915502345.html
  8. i have invested a lot into my boat and my gear. I am always looking to upgrade my gear and get the latest / newest gadgets. For now my boat is setup the way i want with all my riggers/rod holders/ autopilot/ kicker / etc. This spring i am concentrating most my efforts on safety and reliability. New Bellows, Impellers on both motors, spark plugs, new fuel lines / filters etc. after all there’s no sense of having all the best/most gear if you can’t get out and return safely. most of this goes without saying but too often I see a lot of guys spend more money on gear and up breaking down because they neglect the maintenance
  9. Blowback is the amount of resistance on the weight causing it to ride up in the water column. Example say you want to target 100' If you use a common round ball weight it may take 130' or more of cable out to achieve that depth whereas a slimline weight like a torpedo will only use 110' of cable to.achieve the same depth. You can determine the.blowback by the angle created from your downrigger boom of your cable when it hits the water. you will never achieve a 90* angle but the closer to that the better Mike 'Bout Time
  10. here is a good link to webcams that let you see up to date water / ice conditions of the lake. it is mostly "mid lake" ( Rochester to Sodus ) but it gives a good idea of the conditions. i use the sodus lighthouse cam for checking wave conditions and weather when heading out of Fair Haven. http://weather.weatherbug.com/NY/Webster-weather/weather-cams/local-cams.html?zcode=z6286&stat=WBSTR&camera_id=WBSTR
  11. If you have learned something whether it is new or not from the book than it was worth it. I do not own nor have read the book but anytime you learn something it's a plus in my eyes. Also now if you really think about it copper, wire divers, lead core lines etc are not new anymore but are all worth it Mike 'Bout Time
  12. It's another tool to add to to your arsenol. Like.any others it has its days. I run mine with two colors of lead. I've gotten away from running it lately because of others have produced just as well ( coppers/cores/divers etc.) But when I did it took fish. It can be a great tool for summer brown fishing when they move to deeper waters. It's also a good rod to use as your bottom rod when stacking riggers because it rides so much lower. You cam aldo use it off your boards when steelhead fishing. Mike 'Bout Time
  13. 2-5 down and 10- 25 back. During spring brown season put a red or orange spinnie trailed by peanut fly and hold on Mike 'Bout Time
  14. Found it listed on another site.... $ 68,000 Mike 'Bout Time
  15. Price? Mike 'Bout Time
  16. i would move your eyebolt toward the top of the board. this will allow the board to sit lower in the water. When the eyebolt is towards the bottom of the board the planer line is actually lifting the board out of the water somewhat. You want as much of the board in the water as possible. I found that moving the eyebolt back 1.5 -2" from the plans made a huge difference.
  17. I'm guessing "FINALLY" - ? Mike 'Bout Time
  18. Talking about LONG coppers. found these on another site listed for sale "One is loaded with 850 ft of 45# Bloodrun Super Copper The other is loaded with 1000 ft of 45# Bloodrun Super Copper" Ill stick to my 600.........
  19. It's not just about the depth. It's more of a stealth presentation that is not only back but it is also outside your normal spread Mike 'Bout Time
  20. It all depends on what part of the lake you fish. IMO - The fish on the east end are generally deeper. We run 300 coppers in the spring and then 450 -700 plus as summer rolls around and the thermo sets up 100' plus down. It's not uncommon for us to run riggers 120-200 down to reach the fish. When this happens the LONG coppers off the boards are DEADLY. Mike 'Bout Time
  21. Tossing around the idea of adding a set of trees to my setup. Looking for pro/cons etc. I have a 25' trophy with riggers mounted on the corners and 48" tracks on the sides w/ 3 cannon dual axis rod holders on each. I also have multiple rod holders attached to my hardtop supports as well. So it's not a necessity......... Mike 'Bout Time
  22. Sold pending payment Mike 'Bout Time
  23. looks like some nice open water as of yesterday......
  24. X 2 on getting just the replacement netting. I picked mine up at Gander for around $ 20-. After brown season is over I switch it back to standard netting for my secondary salmon net Mike 'Bout Time
