Depends what port you fish out of. At The Oak, break wall is about 43° 22.5" N. I'm guessing Rochester is a bit south of that.

Latitude. If someone talks about fishing the 26 line, they are referring to 43°26' N

Trolling without a Fish Hawk?
orangediablo replied to FowlMood's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Once you find the speed fish are hitting, adjust the drag on your divers so they start creeping out if/when your faster than you want to be. This may help a little when you change direction and down speed changes. -
Can't catch fish sitting on the couch....fishing has been pretty good last few weeks

If you have two 55L Okumas laying around, spool the 45 backwards on one, and see how much braid it'll hold. You'll be able to run more than that for the 350'. Kind of a rough way of doing it but will work. I know someone here has some formulas/spreadsheet to help calculate this stuff.

Looking for a place that rents out trolling boats?
orangediablo replied to scf81's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Call around. Wondering if there are a few captains you can charter through who would allow you to do the work.......choosing what rods to run, lured, etc. -

Siwash hooks on spoons ??
orangediablo replied to Mike M's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Switched all my non-mag spoons to single siwash. IME, they stay buttoned a bit better, especially when the steelies are flying outta the water. Also easier and faster to remove with less damage to the feesh. Side note, tend to switch out the split rings on DW spoons. When swapping hooks, the ring tends to have a gap and somehow lose a little tension, possibly allowing spoon/hook to slide through split ring and 'unwind'. I've brought a few fish in with spoon or hook halfway around the split ring (wish I had a pic). -

Back at it again last night as weather and wind were perfect. This time brought my tripod and was MUCH better. Hit the locator, heard one off in the distance. Played a sequence of coyote/rabbit and this guy came sneaking around. Watched him form a bit and took him out. About a week left, hoping to get out over more time. 20250322010102 (1).mp4

Got my first coyote tonight. Worked him for 20 min, not having an idea if I was working him right, but could hear him yipping closer and closer, so I kept the call going. Still playing with the scope, setting and video, as this was my second time out with it. Weighing him on the scale, i have 45-48#. Seems heavy, so I'll try another scale tomorrow. 20250307204916.mp4
