  1. Also referred to as a cheater: http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/44607-cheater-line/?fromsearch=1
  2. We took the leaders off after breaking 2. Same story as you. Improved clinch knot was the weak point. Water was dirty so they were useless anyways. So we ran 20 lbs mainline right to the swivel with a palomar. But then a king broke the sampo swivel in half. Lol
  3. We cracked off 4 kings, yesterday. Started out with 12 lbs leaders from last weeks brown trout fishing on the DR's. Mistake! Lesson learned. Switched up to running the 20 lbs big game straight to the swivel. Then the third king of a triple broke a sampo swivel in half as it screamed out 100 ft and jumped...with the rod still in the holder. As the second fish jumped and wrapped a wire diver. Gone!
  4. We did the same thing on Sunday for about an hour. No takers. So we slid back in shallow for Browns.

  7. 1000 fits perfect! Don't forget to put a piece of electrical tape over the knot after tying to the spool.
  8. The easiest way to know how much drag is to let your presentation creep out in a rod holder. Then tighten the drag just enough so it stops. Use 30+ lbs for your leader. Make sure you cut out any pig tails in the wire...and re-terminate. I still use rubber bands on some days. Mainly in late August or later when the salmon are staging.
  9. Most will agree that a wire diver is the deadliest weapon on the Great Lakes for Salmon!
  10. Or you can launch at Hughes Marina right down the road for $10. Plenty of parking and docks ready to go.
  11. I use an 50 lbs SPRO swivel with improved clinch knot.
  12. QS premium plus is semi-synthetic. They have a non-synthetic which is premium. And 2 other grades of full synthetic. http://www.quicksilver-products.com/water/outboard/lubricants/
  13. IMO: Buy the best you can afford and you'll save money in the long run!
  14. I started out with ugly stik combos with the tidewater reels. The reels do ok. But I knew they wouldn't hold up well on big salmon. I still use the reels for Browns. But upgraded to better reels for salmon after the first year. I have a couple of the depth master reels too. They're ok. Those are only used for Browns, also.
  15. I run 13 lbs trout man weights on my manual Cannons. I don't think it's too bad.
  16. The QS premium plus is good oil! You can get it at Wal-mart for $28/gallon.
