  1. If we are talking boats...why would you want 87 vs 91?
  2. I usually use them on a mag diver or a deep rigger with meat. But they do work well with flies as well. We took a few kings last year on a bull frog 11 in paddle with an atommik ultra green glow fly down 90. I think I used a 60 in leader.
  3. The tape still helps. It gives the first few wraps something to grab ahold of imo.
  4. The eerie dearie strips last quite awhile if you brine them in Pautzke Fire brine. They catch fish brined or not!
  5. Otter boards and one copper per side for me. Nothing better than watching the line getting plucked from the release!! Then your fighting the fish and not a board. It would be nice to run multiple coppers per side. But I'm a small boat guy and only run 6 lines. Benefits to both ways. No each his own.
  6. I'll keep it just loose enough I can pull line off the reel one-handed as it sits in the rod holder. Not so loose it will bird nest.
  7. The initial shock of a big hit with the drag tight could definitely break your copper off at the rod tip. Loose drag and it just peels line.
  8. I run them some of the way out all the time with no twilli. It could help...or a roller tip. I know that's what Blood Run suggests. But I just keep my drag really loose. Never had a problem.
  9. Bolle's are nice for under $100 (in most cases)
  10. Your overhand knot might have come undone. Then the knot can slip. I tie that about 2-3 inches up and pull the tag tight with a pair of pliers.
  11. The problem with your "kit" is you can't re-terminate very easily. I pull off a few feet of wire and re-tie every 3 trips. The curly-q's that form turn into kinks and your weak spots.
  12. They are done. Get a refund through PayPal.
  13. You tied it wrong or you had a kink. I've never had one break. Watch the fish doctors video: http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/template.tpl?selector=video
  14. High speed reels help a ton! My core and copper reels are mostly Saltist, Seagate and Sealine 57LC.
  15. Congrats!! I work with the brother of the guy that had the next largest king. I think he was watching the leaderboard every 15 mins for the last 5 days of the tournament.
  16. Sounds like a fun week! What's the verdict on the new lexan spoons? Any advantage?
  17. I use the same rods and love them. Sharpen your hooks and bury your line in the release. If they seem to hold too loose, adjust them so they have a firmer hold. I use the little Scotty's. And I bury my line so that I often have to pop the line out when a (smaller) fish hits. Although I had a nice king hit my 5 color the other day. I thought for sure (as I popped the line from the release) it was a small fish or a laker. Then the drag started screaming! Steelhead can be hard to keep hooked on long lines. Usually the jumping is what throws the hook. I tighten down fast (by thumbing the spool) on anything on a long line. Then let them scream out if need be.
  18. Nice catch!! We went 3-6 on Thursday with a 9am start. 40-60 fow. 120 dipsey, 5 color core, 20 and 40 on the riggers. Most on small SSW and a white backed black NK 28. 17 lbs king, 12 lbs king and a 10 lbs laker. We were hoping for the crush fest we had the week before. At least 2 of our other releases were kings.
  19. Most guys are using 50 lbs braid as a backer. Make sure you have the copper coming off the top of the spool. You might need a helper with that big of a spool. I use 20 lbs floro for leader... but I run a lot of spoons. About 30 feet.
  20. Yup, same here. Slow or stop the boat. Even pressure. Shattered one on a hand crank. I wasn't man handling it either.
