  1. I blame mother nature for poor fishing this year. Lake temps were different through out the lake. Wind was very changeable. More than normal cold fronts. I think it will be better next year. I have a gut feeling now, the trout fishing is pretty good if you know where to look for them. Most of the fisherman want perch. Those fish can be hard to find. Perch fishing is not declining on Seneca. Fisherman don’t know how to fish for them. You ever study Seneca perch fisherman how they fish this lake. They ride around looking for a lone fisherman fishing by himself. He reels up a fish. 5 minutes later hes got 20 boats on top of him all fishing the same spot. What a bunch. I'm old school. Give your fellow man some room to fish. This lake is loaded with perch.
  2. Sk8man fisherman can sell their catch, That’s why we have fisherman violating fish limit laws in New York State.
  3. I made a lot of trips to the western basin of lake Erie Every year I fished off turtle creek for a week usually the middle part of May. I camped at turtle creek marina. I picked one week to fish in June off lorain. Stayed at a motor cycle camp. With two trips to Ohio every year I had enough walleye to fill my freezer for the year. By the time the fish came east. I had enough walleye fishing in me. The fishing in the eastern basin sucks compared to what you can catch in the western basin. I fished the central basin too off walnut creek. This is tough fishing here. You have to travel 7 miles out to find the fish. Fishing was a lot easier fishing off Erie or North East PA. Most of the time I went out 5 miles to the PA, NY border and found fish. It sure beats coming from Barcelona to fish the NY, PA border. Those were the good old days when gasoline was cheap. Now I stick with Seneca Lake. Its been about 10 years since I made a trip to Ohio to fish. Last time there we had to keep a close eye on our fishing gear. Theft was starting to get bad there.
  4. I checked E-bay. I cant believe the prices they are charging for old spoons. I couldn’t look the person in the eyes if I charge him that much for a spoon.
  5. Bob I wont sell any of my fishing tackle. New fishing tackle is to expensive and over priced. You can find good buys if you wait and look around. I'm glad I bought my spoons years ago. I never bought my spoons from Sutton company. I bought them at the boat ramp right out of a guys car. I still have a few pfueger records and blade runner spoons left. I have about 30 of those jerk trolling spoons from Sutton left. Plenty of 44, 31, 71, 2 Victrolas left excellent condition I bought form an old timer from Penn Yan that hardly get used anymore. Swan spoons, few millers I bought from him right out of his boat on Seneca lake he kept at roys marina. Plenty of crank baits for walleye excellent names that most of them I didn’t buy. I walked the shoreline of lake Erie and found them washed up on shore in excellent condition.
  6. Bob what do you think they are worth. I saw used suttons on ebay for 3 dollars each. You have to be in the right place at the right time. I have plenty of new suttons I have never used. I'm not selling them.
  7. 2 dollars each for the older ones, 3 dollars each for the newer ones. Don’t give him anymore. The miller spoons were better. Price on millers back 40 years ago went for 2 dollars each. Sutton’s went for 2 to 4 dollars 30 years ago. I bought Sutton in bulk for 2.50 each.
  8. We should have some good fishing on Seneca very soon. Once the full moon gets out of here and the thermocline sets up nicely. The fish will start hitting. Its to early to say Seneca is done for the year.
  9. I blame the slow fishing on 3 things. Full Moon Major cold front At this time of year, thermocline is starting to set up.
  10. The offshore inline boards with 3 hundred ft of copper work well with an optional 3 ounce snap weight.
  11. I'm just about ready to get my boat in. My new fishing partner is ready too. my new black lab.
  12. It wouldn’t cost much to remove the two wood launch docks now, and put in two new floating launch docks. It makes no since to me to close the marina. First thing they should do is gut out the marina. Dredge it out and put in floating docks for the smaller boats and use wood docks for the bigger boats. The wall around the marina is still good yet. The longer we wait and delay this project we will never get anything done.
  13. Last summer all campers had there chance to voice there opinions and concerns about the future of the park and marina. The meeting was with the people of the OPRHP at the park office. The people of OPRHP want to update the park roads and campground. I voice my concern about the marina first. I estimated it could cost up to 3 million to update the marina. I looked into their eyes and I could read their mind. It didn’t look good. 3 million is a lot of money to pour into an old outdated marina with only a few slip owners for the season. If we can get the launch ramp improved now its a start. The trout derby can still use the marina to have a weighing station. We still have the boat launch. Long term survival of this park is more important to update the campground and improve the park roads. The local elected officials don’t want state money poured into this park. They want a public grant to improve this park and marina. If it goes public, this park will loose all its history. We don’t want a big developer to come in and destroy the history of this park. I use this park about 45 days a year. I want the campground updated first. The slip owners of the marina have complained about this problem 20 years ago about the deplorable conditions in the marina. Why do you think people have been leaving this place. Every year the state could have updated the marina piece by piece. They don’t think like the little guy. All they do is spend money on stuff they don’t need.
  14. Ed I think your problem is in your stomach muscles. Try doing some easy situps first. If they don’t work try something different. http://www.spine-health.com/wellness/exercise/exercise-and-back-pain
  15. Those two guys ran charter boats out of the south end of Canandaigua lake back in the early 70s when it was clark marina. Bill Kelley the Vietnam veteran had a charter boat on that lake too. Lake Ontario fishing took off in the 70s and all 3 moved their boats up to the big pond. I still have all my night fishing gear. There still a few guys that fish at night but not many anymore. Seneca produced some nice fish for me at night but that lake can get pretty nasty at night. Keuka and canandaigua were safer lakes to fish and more popular. Now that I’m retired I might go back to the night fishing again.
  16. then we fish for carp with carp meat.
  17. I use capt Johns bait heads. Smear a little hearing oil on them too.
  18. I tried hanging a 4x4 gill net under lights on Seneca lake over 150' of water. The sawbellies wont go near the net. I did better catching them with tiny cold hooks tipped with bread. I buy the bait wholesale now brine ready to go.
  19. I know gas is very expensive today. It cut into my fishing 60 percent. It cost me 100 dollars round trip just for my truck to fish Seneca. It cost more for the boat. I use to make two trips to Ohio every year to fish for walleye. High gas has stopped my trips there. I can afford the gas, I refuse to let my government and Big oil suck me dry. I love my fishing but I have a limit on how much I'm willing to pay to go fishing. It makes more since to me to put my money somewhere else till the gas comes down a little. To sell fish to help pay for gas is a can of worms. Your idea is to make money. If you are a fishing guide raise your price to take people out fishing. Its a lot cheaper now for a lot of people to fish with a guide than go out and buy your own equipment to go fishing. The sad thing about being a guide there’s no money in it to make a living. Just enough money to keep the boat going.
  20. More money to be made selling boats, fishing tackle, campers and fishing lures. Anybody that wishes they could sell their catch is no sportsman.
  21. People that catch fish with a hook sinker and fishing rod should not be allowed to sell their catch. Its a shame we have a few sportsman on this board that wish they could sell their catch if they could. Sports fishing was meant to have a good time. Take fishing vacations and enjoy fishing on your days off from work with your friends I think if some of you had a real job you would have a different attitude. New York State is one of 3 states left in the US, you can sell pan fish. I remember back in the early 80s when Reagan was president we were in a severe recession. ice fishing on Oneida lake was fantastic for big perch. You could go out and catch 100 nice 12 to 15 inch perch. Guys came up to me and bragged that they made more money sitting home collecting unemployment and fishing everyday plus selling their catch. In two years that fishery was fished out. We have the same problem on Seneca lake during the winter. Some guys go out catch there limit come in and go out and catch more. These guys sell their catch. This is not sportsmanship. New York is so liberal with everything they do. You figure some of these sports clubs could get together and push for a bill in our state government to stop pan fish sales
  22. It’s been one lousy week for weather. I tried to go out myself but I heard thunder at 530, checked the computer, A very nasty storm over Geneva. Got the wife up told her we are going home to get some work done around the house. Picked out the garden, worked on the bee hives, sprayed the strawberries, back now at camp. No since sitting around here wasting a day when I can get something done around the house. See what happens tomorrow.
  23. Never give out a perch report on these lakes. Most of them are a bunch of meat fisherman. The sad thing about them. A lot of them will sell their catch for money. If you want a lot of perch now. Fish lake Erie. Perch are easier to catch.
  24. Have you ever tried fishing at night with a full moon. hang a light over the side of boat to draw up bait. Bait will never come up. Its the same when you troll during the daylight hours. Trout go deeper to look for deep bait. You can still catch fish but you have to work harder for them. New moon is the best time to fish up to the half phase.
  25. I haven’t read the 145 pages of info yet. I will read later. That cable is not close to the barge. Its in 200' of water. If that’s the cable that comes from the barge its pretty darn long. What about the north, south and west sides of barge. I never hooked into any cables there. You might have seen me in the area. I have a Red lund boat. I haven’t been out there this year. When I’m out there I’m the only guy there. But I stay far away from the Barge.
