Just got a pair of older Cannon Mag 10

Cleaned them up tested the things, up down etc, all worked.

Finished mounting and checking cables etc, up/down switch on one now only works going up.

Its got coated cable, these dont seem to be auto, you hold the switch both ways to make it go.

Seems like switch failed, any other thoughts?

If I remember correctly , my Mag 10s

I had late 80s auto stop worked when the ball broke the surface.  It also has a lexan thing with a snap swivel on one end you had use so rigger could sense when ball broke the surface . Loved my Mag 10s . Great rigger , fast enough . I just wore them out

You need to identify what model Cannon Mag 10 that you have.  Fish 307’s website has a page where they breakdown the various Mag 10 versions going to back to pre 2006 models.  Not all the oldest versions had auto stop.  Shape of motor cover is a good way to differentiate.

I think these are pre 2006

Just wondered if the switch failing one way had happened yo others too

Probably the circuit board inside the riggers. The older ones used Omron relays that weren't rated for the current that the initial start would require. Allot of those were replaced with a non momentary switch.  The older circuit boards are not available as far as I know.

Thats my concern

It was working fine through install. Tesr etc

Just stopped going down, goes up fine

I would think you could bypass the switch to testvthe board?

Thanks for the various comment

I just tried a couple things

Took off the coated cable, and tested with wire cable to be sure it was grounding correctly.

Took the switch out tried it in another downrigger, it was fine.

So it came down to the circuit board working when IT wanted to. About half the time.

Spoke with Mike at Fish307, bought the new version switch and am wiri g to motor direct, dont need the board just lose auto stop.

So alls well that ends well
