Fish hawk vs. Depth raider vs. Sub troll vs Cannon intellitr

X4 all the way. The other units are nice but the X4 IMO is the best. Here is a list of reasons why:

Works to 300' without skipping a beat

No coated cable - Coated cable gets worn and needs replacing - $$$$

It can be used on ANY rigger on the boat

Smaller probe

Sealed electronics

Awesome battery life

Digital display

Does not skip like the old 840 and 800

Does not need an antenna that will need to be upgraded or replace

Does not require a wet paper towel for operation

The one downfall of the X4 is you will have to drill 4 holes in the transom of your boat. Some people have issues with this.

Better off getting a synthetic material to mount on the transom and drilling into that so if you mount it just a little too low you aren't making new holes each time.

If your going Fish Hawk wait b/c there is a new one coming out. The new one is called the XD4 and will add actual depth of the probe to the data that is already provided. It is done through a pressure sensor. We loved this on our Cannon while it worked. Which leads me to my next point. Cannon no longer sells the Intelli-troll. They had too many problems with it and in their own words "want to stick to what they do best, and that's building downriggers."

The Depth Raider and Sub-Troll are both solid units. We've run them both, and only because of availability in a time of need do we have the Sub-Troll now. We really like it.
