Advice on Sylvan boat

On the Hook

Recommended Posts

Posting this for my buddy. He is looking to buy a 2000 or 01 Sylvan Navigator 1700 with a 2-Stroke Merc 115. He is concerned the boat won't get down to trolling speeds, say between 1.8 to 2.2, without using a trolling bag. It mostly would be used on the Finger Lakes. The dry weight of this boat is 1240 lbs. Anybody have this boat or similar style boat and use it to troll.

i have a 19 FT navigator but mine has an f115, i can get it to troll down to 2.0 mph on the gps with out a problem.... that being said, the last boat had was an 18 FT lowe with a 90hp  2-stroke, i had to use bags to get is to 2.5, and the motor was unhappy the whole time.  hope this helps.

I have a 17.5' crestliner with a 115 hp e- tec. I made a 5 gal pale drift anchor for each side, it cost me $10 and got me from 2.8 down to 1.8. They stay out of the way attached to the front cleats... Works great. His other option would be a different pitched prop but then he would loose top end.
