  2. Just a heads up. The 150 quarts 7 day Igloo coolers are on sale in BJs for $74.99 If you're interested you should go get one before they are gone.
  3. Excellent day off Rochester! Looking at the weather report I knew we had to get out early. Left the dock at 0530 and motored about 10miles west passed Bradocks bay. Slowed down in 80ft and did some searching. Found a good screen 170’-180’and set up. First king was on before we finished. Worked the 42 line until then waves picked up then trolled back to I-Bay. Had 10 kings before a 0830. There was a strong westerly current and speed control was was tough so we ran 5 rods. 3 riggers and 2 dipsey, spoons on everything minus a flasher fly on the port dipsy. Rriggers set at: 94’, 106’, 80’ Dipsy 3 settings 260’ and 225’ Carbon 14, bad toad half moon, wonderbread,UV mongoose and two faced spin doctor with stub glow. Due to the current most fish came on a westerly troll. 3.6 surface speed and 3.2 at the ball. That was as slow as I could get with both bags. The salmon were feisty, even trying pass the boat. Went 15 for 17 Trolled back in front of the bay and road the waves in. 3’-5’ waves and occasionally 7’ er by the time we quit.
  4. Titebond III for gluing marine plywood sheets together, stainless fasteners. Have all your clamping, compressing stuff ready along with driver and fasteners before you open up the Titebond III jug. Don't be cheap applying it. If it doesn't ooze out the edges you didn't use enough. Spar Urethane gloss for sealing wood/cuts,holes. Again don't be cheap coat after coat after coat. Lifecalk for coating fasteners when you install them. Theres a good YouTube of Calumet Marine doing transom replacement.
  5. Yesterday
  6. Weatherman nailed it here as steady rain at 5 but tailed off and was manageable by 6 so a nice morning to be on the water. A few lake trout were active early, then a decent Brown and then a really nice Rainbow spiced things up. A little while later thought I had a pickerel on until it got closer to the boat. Quick pic and back in the water. Very cool looking fish with vibrant markings.
  7. Brian, what would you recommend now? I own a few old Tekotas in the 600 size but would like to buy a few smaller reels for browns and landlocks. I've killed a few conventors in the 20 size so upgraded to the coldwater and killed one brown fishing this spring. I haven't heard anything good about the new Tekotas, any thoughts?
  8. Fathers Day Special Model 2116 $829-$50.00= $779.99 Model 1116 $739-$50.00= $689.99
  9. Originally when I started started big water fishing about 25 yrs ago I started with magdas. Thats what I could afford at the time. They worked fine on the Finger Lakes and when I moved up to the big lake and started chasing 20+ lb Kings the drags were sticky but worked except for wire rods. I was in a position at that point to get better reels and I upgraded to Shimano Tekotas and never looked back. You need better quality gear for chasing Kings than you need on the Fingers. That said the Magdas will work and you have a great idea with upgrading the drags on your own as you really don't have much to lose. There are videos on this on youtube to give you some guidance. Best of luck.
  10. Looking for any store or shop that sells TotalBoat High Performance Crystal Clear 2:1 Epoxy. I can only find it on Amazon with long shipping times. Would love to pick it up or have it delivered from somewhere local instead. Any suggestions?
  11. Thank you all for your feedback. The reels have been good to me. I have had them for ten years. I bought them originally for lakers on finger lakes when I lived in horseheads. They have served me well the last 4-5 years since I have lived in Rochester. I have already ordered Daiwa saltist to replace. I will take apart the Magda as a learning experience and/or have Brian take a look to see if the Magda is a quick fix to be kept as a backup. At the end of the day, it is time to upgrade my reels to my level of experience. The Magdas did what they were intended for as an introduction to this fun, addictive, and expensive sport. Thanks again to those that responded.

  13. Actually, after a prolonged search on the internet, I found C-Map's own compatibility site. These old cartridges are designated CF-85 by C-Map. Now i just have to find someone who is willing to part with one for Western Lake Ontario.
  14. I will use some kind of tube epoxy to laminate the two sheets of 3/4 plywood together. Any recommendations on the laminating epoxy? Would people recommend that I coat both sheets of plywood with pentrating epoxy first, THEN laminate them together.. Or should I laminate them first then coat the whole thing after? It seems like a good idea to get the inside faces coated with epoxy sealer, but im not sure if the epoxy glue will work the same if the surface already has an epoxy coating. I still can't find a place to order totalboat pentrating epoxy. Walmart and Amazon are the only places that I can find the brand, and they have every item except penetrating epoxy lol.
  15. It’s there and the response has been good thanks
  16. Thx my wife messaged him via Facebook and we are just waiting to hear back.
  17. I have been using them for 30+ years and never calibrated 1 yet. I just spool the same amount of line on each reel getting them close to full. I use the counter to get me back to the same spot I want to fish. if I let out 150' of line and get a fish I want my lure back as close to that spot as I can get, I have found with some line counters it's best to zero them each time before letting out line. many times my counters were on a half number and did not work, so I wouldn't know how much line was out. but now I try to remember to just reset my counter making sure it's on all zeros.
  18. I really have trouble understanding why anyone would buy a reel that needs a drag upgrade new out of the box. I wouldn’t buy a new truck that needed a better transmission so it worked right. Buy quality reels to begin with and be done with it.
  19. I am currently restoring my tin can, I have a thread going if anyone is interested. Right now I am researching to find which penetrating epoxy is going to be the best to seal the entire thing. Lots of info out there, but basically none of the products people talk about are available without ordering online, and totalboat penetrating epoxy seems to be impossible to order from anywhere. This transom was rotted out, and the Aluminum back plate and interior insert were completely destroyed with pitting, corrosion, holes, pulled through bolts, etc. I had a local fabricator weld on a new 1/2 plate on the back and bend up a brand new insert. Next step is to get the wood cut up and sealed.
