  2. When I take friends that are new to Lake Ontario, especially with kids and wives, I only run coppers as a last resort. Having them work rigger and diver rods is a much more enjoyable experience for them.
  3. (Observe all safe boating rules) In addition, while out on the water, some things I would never do: - Be out there without a means of verbal communication. (cell, VHF, etc.) - Fish barefooted. - Ignore the clouds or fish in a thunderstorm. - Put the boat in reverse with downriggers/dipseys/planners deployed. - Leave unsecured lures around (i.e. on seats, floor or dash) - Travel with rigger weights unsecured (not hanging on riggers) - Deploy gear without helm secured. - Drop rigger weights into water when deploying them. - Allow rigger weights to swing in the air. (Especially while fighting a fish or reeling in line) - Deploy the port side rigger/dipsey while turning to port. (or vice versa) - Turn boat in the direction a fish is swimming while fighting it. - Point the rod at the fish. (always keep a bend in the rod) What has your experience taught you to never do?
  4. Today
  5. Older boy on our boat yesterday out of Sandy while I was out on Lake Runner. Tommy out on his little boat in the background. Pretty cool.
  6. Definitely not as good this morning . Started the same thing in the same area. Went 2 for 4 in first hr , then that was it . Didn't see the bait and fish like yesterday . Fished into 60 ft and out to 150 . Then East wind came up and rain was starting so I pulled and ran . I was the only boat out there . Water has dropped and the north launch dock is not submerged. Somebody should make a call to DEC
  7. Greeted with the wind really blowing, like double the Windfinder Max prediction and once you reached about 100' of water(South wind) it was rocking pretty good. Lots of boats 100 to 150. Solo, so one rigger down only, with fixed cheater. Out to 150, turned back and at about 110 both spoons got hit. Small king on bottom spoon and medium brown on top.Green Jeans and Mag Hulk on top. It got a little calmer so started out again got to 165 and had gotten one wire dipsy out with Brads Super Plug, back 300,took a hit, 15# King. U turned back back and at 145 meat gets hit and takes mid teens laker. Then it calmed nicely, headed back noeth and at about 160 again Brads plug got crushed, after a pretty good run, leader between diver and board snaps! So 5 hookups, 4 landed. Just couldn't get out to where i thought the kings likely were. Never got the temp probe down, to rough. So fished 85 to 125 depth. Its not the "Oak", but it was a solid morning. Good luck
  8. Have a 48 lb KING from Lake Ontario & a 24 lb Brown from Ontario caught many years ago but there are still giants out there.
  9. I launch at Deans cove mostly but have launched at Long Point State park & Allan Truman park, as for Ontario Sodus Point is one & Oak Orchard is another I fish out of also Geneese River
  10. My friend, I have one more question you go to Lake Ontario. Where do you launch your boat in? I like go for salmon trout. I caught 25 pounds salmon last year
  11. Prattsburg It’s a little trip to the finger lakes if you went to Cayuga Lake, where would you launch your boat in? I’m just wondering if there are instant messenger on this form I am interested going with you. I retired. I can go about any day.
  12. Finally got out again, had'nt been on the big lake since May. Seems like we picked a good day. Did'nt start till 9:00 and fished till 2:00 Started setting up in 80 fow on a north troll went out to 180 then stayed in the 140-180 fow for the day. Finished with 14 in the boat mostly kings. Don't know how many we dropped this morning, had quite a few screamers come unbuttoned on the dipsie with meat rig. Cautht mostly 10-15 lbers with a 23.4! meat rigs were best but spoons also went. Nice day with lots of boats out.

  13. Congrats to the anglers to the West!!! Just to show that we have big fish to the East...Got my first 24# king (24% 06 oz) this season...Ive only caught 3 kings over 20# this year before today I had three over 20 today.... Went 11/16 today from 1100-1415 East of the River from 105-150...slower than yesterday but bigger fish. Great steelies! The fish look so healthy.... Spoons - UV blitz reg size was a killer...Sea sick waddler with green dots on glow cup from Route 18 was also hot. Snowflake...always...And the electric funeral. Caddy shack took all the steelies on a 200 steel...went four times... What an amazing resource we have!!! IMG_2152.pdf

  14. Great story, beautiful King Congratulations
  15. Tommy has a habit of bumping into big fish.
  16. Pm sent
  17. We crossed paths with them at the dock and gave them the lowdown. Beats anything we pulled though. Out of umpteen dozen fish, we managed a single 20 lber.
  18. Yesterday
  19. Set up in 75 fow and loaded with marks and bait ball’s out to. 95 fow. Carbon 14,s on rigger, meat on rigger/ dipsy/ 10 color cores were all firing. Several mature kings, few steelhead, decent brown all bit. Twice we doubled on the same rod with cheater. Incredible morning. Had the whole area to ourselves as most boats blew by us out to deeper water. IMG_6586.mov

  20. thanks for update great report!
  21. Like everyone else we had a good day today. Caught a lot of fish this weekend but nothing over 20lbs Meanwhile my younger boy in his 15 foot Whaler, two diver rods, no riggers or coppers pulled this out of 75 feet of water out of Sandy. one of the great things about our fishery is that you just never know lol.
  22. 100% right This morning I could not believe how good it was . In reality , how could it get any better ?
  23. 80-150 straight out and a little west … 20 hits running a 4 rod spread in short order …all kings and steelies . Gold spoons were best meat was good too . 50-70 down ..Steelies are in beautiful shape … fat and sleek . Biggest was 9 pounds . Kings were 12+ pounds . Lost a tank at the net . Not many places in the country you can limit on walleyes on one Great Lake and limit on king salmon on another Great Lake within a reasonable drive . So happy I’m set up to target multiple species with either a left or right out of the driveway ! It doesn’t get much easier on either lake right now it seems ! Be thankful !! I am .
  24. Headed NE out to 120fow and started setting up. Didnt even have my 2 riggers set when the 300 steel took a shot. had 6 boated before 7am then lost count. Bite slowed after 9 but would still hit doubles. kept a 21,20,10 for filets that was plenty released this 25lb king my 87 yr old dad reeled in never broke 220 fow best was 180ish off the flats east of the oak all spoons riggers 65-90 down never ran a flasher Most riggers a couple on divers. Green hulk. Fat Nancy, and some other green black white combos dont know how many more trips I will get with my dad so this was a good one! thanks to Whaler for the report out of bald eagle for the game plan for us that worked
