I have the same issue with a 10' beam on my 27' Amberjack. You are required to have a special use permit. This is done at the NYSDOT not the NYSDMV. There are forms to fill out requiring trailer info and load specifics. You can find it all online but it is a little hard to understand at first. I found that calling the DOT in Rochester (Jefferson Rd.) to be quite helpful. They explained things well. There is a minimum insurance required as well. Some of the traveling requirements are flags on all 4 corners, oversize load banners on front & back, and a flashing yellow light on the tow vehicle. It is a little intimidating at first but I have been doing it for about 4 years and now I renew by using the old form and put in new dates. It used to cost me about $60-80 for a one month permit. I now get a yearly permit for about $380. There are also time and day restrictions. This info is just approximate from memory, but should give you an idea. PM me is I can help further.

unfortunately, our kind of fishing doesn't give us the right of way: from the USCG Rules of the Road, annex: (d) The term "vessel engaged in fishing" means any vessel fishing with nets, lines, trawls, or other fishing apparatus which restrict maneuverability, but does not include a vessel fishing with trolling lines or other fishing apparatus which do not restrict maneuverability.

FWIW, I just replaced the alternator on one of my 4.3 liters. The belt looked pretty good, but I got to thinking that carrying a spare belt would be cheap insurance for the $20 cost. I had done this on earlier boats but not gotten around to it on this one. Just a thought. BTW, the belt tightening on these engines is very easy as others have mentioned.

Have stayed there many times. Nothing fancy, but clean & reasonable for a fishing crew. Lighthouse Motel

Dale, you might try Guerinteed Archery on Rt.21 just south of 441. Todd set up my 15 yr. old granddaughter w/ a used bow last year. He is friendly & helpful.

Is the Coast Guard in the Rochester area capable of receiving and acting on distress transmissions from DSC radios? Does anyone know of someone who has used it in this area? If so, how well did it work?

I like 7 strand Malin. If possible, don't break down your dipsey rods and wind your swivel up to the twilly tip to prevent kinks.

Viewing downrigger weights on your graph
landingzone replied to MuskyMark's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The size of the area you are viewing is determined by the cone angle of your transducer (look at your specs), and the depth at which you desire to know the area. Draw the cone; drop a straight vertical line down from the point to the depth of interest. The width across the base of the cone at the depth of interest (simple trig) is the diameter of your viewing area. -

I've seen the suggestion to bend the hook eye previously and I've tied some that way with the snell. They look pretty good but I don't know if it helps. Some hooks I've tried tend to break rather than bend due to their hardness.

Not sure how much you should worry about it. I lost one on one of my twin I/O's a couple seasons back and it didn't make much difference. I think the skeg is more of a prop protector than anything else. I think it has minimal effect on steering. Correct me if I'm wrong. When you get the opportunity, a new one can be welded on.

How much enlargement do you need? If it is just a small amount (1/8" to 1/4" dia. increase) you may be able to use a rasp of some sort. For more than that maybe a sabre saw would work w/o damaging the cables.
